While we wait for the government to try and resolve the great debate over health care reform, thousands of people in Ohio go without coverage. Any changes that are approved won’t go into effect for at least three years so it is up to small business operators to find solutions in the short term for themselves. You may be surprised to learn that in Ohio there are a number of affordable health plans available right now.

Ohio Small Business Health Insurance is offered in the state by a number of different companies and you would be wise to find an independent agency which can help you find the plan that is best for your company. The price that you will pay for coverage will depend on a number of factors which include the size of your company, the type of coverage and deductibles.

There are basically two options when it comes to Ohio health insurance coverage; indemnity plans and managed care. The indemnity policies will provide your workers with more health care options for services and treatment. In most cases it will require the worker to pay for the service and then seek reimbursement from the health insurer. Managed care options are more affordable but will require the workers to receive services from a doctor or hospital that is a preferred provider affiliated with the health insurance company.

Managed care plans are also known as HMO’s or PPO’s. These types of plans can be customized to fit almost any need with a wide variety of payment options. Premiums for your business can be held down by raising personal deductibles and co-pays for services.

The higher the deductible is, the lower the premium. There are at least five major companies that offer Ohio Small Business Health Insurance and your agent will point out the pros and cons of each one. Beware of other companies operating in the state offering mini med plans with extremely low premiums. Those plans do not include the benefits associated with typical insurance policies and will leave you and your workers disappointed.
