That's a metaphor, btw!n n *
HOW "DABBLER" WRITERS BECOME PROFESSIONALS
"It took me 15 years to find out that I had no talent for nwriting, but by then I couldn't give it up, because by then I was ntoo famous to give up."n - Robert Benchley
"It took me fifteen years of hard labour (thousands of hours of ntoil and tears, just without the blood) to become an ove
ight success."n- "sqeamish" Craig Lock
"Dabbler writers" do it regularly: with self discipline and dedication.
I may not be one of the best writers around, but I've gotn large doses of dedication and self discipline (which comes from nmotivation, because I love what I do - although it's very hard worknin terms of the concentration and focus required).
I try to have lots of fun, whilst I try to earn a living*.
Heaps of enthusiam too (most essential)!nn* Makes me think of 'dis tort"...
"I never had any doubts about my abilities. I knew I could write.
I just had to figure out how to eat while doing this." n- Cormac McCarthy n
Top writers WRITE AND REWRITE - many times over, so thenwords flow better each time.
They aim for perfection - very, very hard to achieve; althoughnone can always improve our first efforts.
Every time I go through a manuscript, I change things (likenrepetitive words, incorrect grammar and punctuation) to try tonget the words to flow better... but one has to draw a haltnsomewhere, otherwise my books would never get published.
Use the unlimited powers of your human IMAGINATION to create:
Ideas, concepts or even stories. In so doing, you are GIVING nsomething of yourself to the universe...adding a touch of your nindividuality. Sharing something of my writings is what gives nme the most pleasure (other than my beloved family, of course!). n *
HOW TO AVOID COMMON MISTAKESn
What do you think are the most common mistakesn of new writers?
Take a coffee break while you do this shortn assignment.
My immediate thoughts that first "come to mind *...:n n* What part of speech is that? Is it a cliche?n n* repetitive wordsn n* incorrect gramma
n* incorrect punctuationn n* using too many wordsn
The art of good writing, I believe lies in brevity, so omit alln unnecessary words.
Doing this makes the sentence flow more rhythmically, more swiftly.
I find reading a very cerebral (impressive word) activity, thatn demands a lot of concentration- so make a conscious effort ton write in a style that's easy to read . Try to make your readingn so easy on the eye, that a child can enjoy (and appreciate) you
writing style.
Now you have all the tools and the talent there should not benanything to stop you indulging in your creative pursuits. I hopenthis information may be helpful to you in your creative writingn
Happy writingn
