Every journey in life needs places of encouragement to keep us focused on making it to completion. A spiritual journey is no different and like any journey we make in life it also has its key markers that dictate to us what progress we have made. The difference between a spiritual journey and other jou
eys is that there is a constant discovery of something new within us. In other words we are not reborn once but every time there is a significant spiritual change within us. Our Lord says we should live each day as it comes and not regard for raiment or food for the next day. He teaches us how to ask and believe that we have received. There are many more of his teachings that dictate our spiritual journey. Below are some of the ways that enable us to know that we have been reborn in spirit.

Tolerancer
Tolerance for the different situations we face in life is a daily learning experience. We are constantly being thrown into different situations, whether it is the rise in fuel prices, a change in our environment or merely meeting new people things can change dramatically from one day to the next without our control. Allowing ourselves to be reborn each time we come through a new experience means we have accepted the Lord in our lives. We have understood his teachings of tolerating our fellow human being, accepting the conditions we live in and believing that he is in control of every situation. This is humility before God. If we can go to bed each day and thank God for our blessings irrespective of whether they look favorable in the eyes of man or otherwise then we have been reborn in spirit. If we cannot get past this and sink into depression then we do not know God and haven’t been reborn.

Patiencer
Patience is a key milestone to achieve in our everyday endeavors. We must be patient with each other, with receiving from God, with our selves and in our tasks. If tolerance above meant accepting the conditions we live in whether they are favorable or not then patience is waiting patiently for God to make them change in our favor and understanding. With patience we would go through anything, good or bad knowing that God would eventually give us the spirit to live with all conditions. Patience is a spiritual test, an examination that must constantly be taken for our spirits to be renewed in Christ. If we come through this test each day with good results then we know that we have been reborn in spirit.

Longsufferingr
Longsuffering is a spiritual flag held high by all those who believe in God and our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. It is not a one-off event believing that because we suffered in the past we do not have to ever face tribulation. Tribulation in spirituality is not attributed to physical poverty but to spiritual endurance. A rich man can go through spiritual torture by the same token that a poor man does. What is important here is that we recognize this characteristic of our spiritual journey. Accepting longsuffering as a recurring event in our spiritual journey means we have been reborn in the spirit. With God there are good and bad times but each is favored as part of the spiritual journey.

Proclamation
If we proclaim the name of God and our Lord and savior Jesus Christ before others, not just in word but in truth by our deeds and our thoughts then we have been reborn in spirit. It is one thing to say we worship the Lord and have accepted him in our lives. It is another thing to still proclaim his name when our society challenges us with its beliefs. If we can stand firm on our footing doing that which is godly and holding firm to the Lord’s commandments in spite of all that is against us then we have truly been reborn.

Faithr
The most important aspect of knowing that we have been reborn in the spirit is our faith. This is something that we must monitor by the circumstances we face each day in life. The word of God must be renewed in our thoughts and deeds and if we come through by his grace and wisdom then we should know that it is his spirit that works through us. If the old man we once were takes control of us again and we fall back to carnal wisdom and reasoning then we should recognize that we have fallen from grace.

In order to recognize that we have been reborn in spirit we must constantly renew each of the categories mentioned above and all the other teachings given to us by God. If we revert to the oldman that was, before we came to God then all our hard work is erased and we must start all over again. Being reborn in spirit is not a one off event as all of us are capable of falling from grace. Being reborn in spirit is being able to renew our minds and soul each day before God and know that we would endeavour to fulfill his commandments as written in scripture.
