Laugh Your Way to Closing the Sale

Everyone can probably remember a cartoon or television show that makes them laugh every time they think about it.

And every time we think about it, it makes us laugh again and we tell all of our friends that they have go to watch it as soon as they get a chance.

This kind of Humour, you will be pleased to know, can be applied to many types of marketing. You do have to be careful though, there is definitely a time and a place to incorporate humour in your marketing activities

You may think it is hilarious but if no one can remember what you were promoting with this humour then you might as well not have bothered in the first place.

Here are a few ways to incorporate humour in your sales. To start with how about a logo, a funny one at that, to go on your business card.

Google a logo designer and you will get just what you are looking for at under $40.

Having a logo that makes people smile will also mean that they will remember you and more importantly, the product or service that you are selling. Another plus point is that you will be far more noticeable to start with.

Even if your prospects don't remember your name or your business name they will more than likely remember your logo.

Also it can be a good idea to bring in the logo to emphasise points in your sales pitch that may not be a memorable as you would like them to be. If you are involved in direct sales then this tactic really does come into its own.

Humour always seems to break the ice but make sure that you don't go over the top with it. Use it at the wrong time is just as likely to put someone off and to look elsewhere.

On saying that though, if you get to a sticky point in your sales pitch an appropriate one liner can soon resolve any problem and put the sales pitch back on track.

It is also worth investigating if it would be a good idea to include custom made cartoons in the rest of your marketing material. Bear in mind that if you are using this type of material it really is a case of the simpler the better. It is a well known fact that people are more likely to stop and look at a cartoon ten to read their way through a page full of text.

This will initially break the ice and then you can go back and walk them through the printed material. At the end of the day, humour will only pay off in your marketing efforts if you make it effective and don't go over the top with it. Make sure that the type of humour you use is appropriate to the market you are selling to.

This really is a great form of advertising and is only limited by your imagination.
