The Phytocosm-Fighting Fruitlessness In The Garden Of God

When you receive the Seal God plants a little garden in you. The phytocosm is the garden of your heart but it does not always bear fruit. But there is a way to start bearing fruit.

You do not chop down the fruitless fig tree in the garden of your heart. You do not take that whole tree away. You fertilize it by renewing your heart with spiritual Life.

When you are sealed your heart has to be governed by Jesus Christ. Your heart is naturally evil. And you will tend toward evil without Jesus. Most of what once came out of your heart was evil and caused your body to sin.

Before you were sealed your heart often controlled the actions of your body. Yet once you are sealed and have come to God you still fight the battle every day against your own heart. You fight against your own nature.

You fight against yourself. You are not experiencing an "inner conflict" and this is not simply failure to make decisions. No. You are fighting against your natural desires, lust, and covetousness. When you win the fight you put those desires to death.

But it is against nature to put your nature to death. You learn to do something that is not natural. But it is necessary, for when your heart is purified it is glorified. And your body is glorified with your heart.

With a glorious new body your actions become new. You do not just change on the inside; you act differently now too. You follow God and practice His Commandments. And you follow God to your new vocation.

When you are sealed you have this new vocation: you bear the fruit of its message. You send the message of the seal to all Christians and whoever else is ready to believe in Jesus Christ.

But your heart naturally will resist sending the message. And when your heart resists, your body will also resist doing it. You overcome this natural resistance and start to bear fruit. nnn“A certain fellow,” said Jesus, “had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came searching for fruit on it and he couldn’t find any. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years I’ve demanded this fig tree bear fruit, and I haven’t found any.’”nnn“’Chop it down! Why make the soil idle?’ But he answering said to him, ‘Sir, leave it this year and I will dig around it and fertilize it. It should bear fruit. And if not, chop it down—that’s its fate.’”

This fig tree is growing out of your natural heart. It is not bearing any fruit and the soil could be better used to grow something that will bear fruit. You are ready to completely remove this tree and plant another.

But you do not completely remove your heart. You deny the flesh and put your natural heart to death. But then you live again--your heart lives spiritually. Instead of removing your heart completely you replace it by renewing it.

God will have patience and wait for you to bear fruit. Yet you fertilize the tree today. God has all ete
ity but you do not have much time. You renew your heart today with what you receive from above, from Heaven and from God.

This garden of your heart you tend daily is the phytocosm. You do not remove and replace your old natural heart. You "replace" your heart by renewing it day by day with spiritual Life from God so that the soil below is sanctified by God from above.

You will become a master of the phytocosm. You will come to bear fruit eventually with your renewed heart. The soil of your soul will nourish much new life sending the message of the seal.

It seems rather odd to refer to any of what follows as secrets. For one thing, the word “secret” implies that something is hidden and the wisdom below is anything but secret. In some form or fashion, you could find these in virtually any spiritual tradition. Second, “secret” implies that the spiritual wisdom that would lead one to the life he/she really wants is really only accessible by a few. And, the unfortunate tendency is not to regard your self as one of the select few. But, of course, you are.
