Every individual has a brand. Many however do not know the use to which to put their personal brand, talk less of identifying and developing it. Many however do not know the use to which to put their personal brand, talk less of identifying and developing it. Those who have an idea what personal branding could do for them try purposelessly to develop one for themselves without knowing what ingredients a powerful personal brand is made up of. I have observed some of the world's brands(both institutional and personal)and realized same elements running through them all.
For the purpose of this article, i would like us to have one of the world's greatest personal brands in mind while we look at the elements one after the other. Richard Branson is an adventurous business man whose personality has rubbed-off his virgin group of companies.One word keeps coming up for him: adventure! I will not discuss Richard Branson. But see as follows that his personal brand has POWER!
PANACHE
Every good brand worth any good price must have some aura of; for want of a better word; invincibility around it. It must by all means have this sense of assertively confident style that makes observers feel its presence. A person with a strong brand with style should be able to move any occasion by the shear force of their personality. To conclude on this point, that brand must strive to be the benchmark.
ORIGINAL
Any good brand must not derive its strength from another. It must have its focus and purpose for existing. Many brands lack this originality. Most of the time, they want to be seen to be in direct competition with others or reining supreme at number two. Being original would make good brands not only survive but thrive. After all we all know counterfeits don't last.
WEIGHTY
Without making too much effort, personal brands that are original and exibit panache, have with them some threatening momentum that causes things to happen. They have influence and constantly build new constituencies. They are able, by their weight, to overide all threats to their existence.
EMINENCE
Other words include: distinction, renown, reputation,fame, importance etc etc. What would your personal brand be renowned for? how important is your brand to anybody? How do you affect the people around you positively? What are you famed for or known to do so well that only you can provide soo well? When you have an objective to reach, it becomes the basis for this element and once you achieve it repeatedly and in better fashion than your last achievement, you, without a doubt, become important to your constituents.
RARE
Being exceptional is the last but equally important element in the make-up of powerful personal brands. Another may attempt or in fact give you competition. But that thing you do, must have a formular you alone know and dare to do better such that anybody who attempts would only remind people of you. This is leveraging competition to your advantage.
So back to our man Richard Branson who for me has all the ingredients of a powerfull brand. He has Panache, he is Original in respect of his moves, he has Weight that influences many, Eminece that takes him from the relm of jokers and lastly, he is a Rare individual with a rare attitude.
Find your ground, create your brand and make it POWERful. Your brand make-up is absolutely in you. You hold the POWER!
