"We are like angels with only one wing. We can only fly when we are helping someone else to fly."
No man is an island, we are not designed to live in isolation, we are designed to live in community with our fellow humans. We can only gain a sense of significance through our interaction with others, it is very difficult to be significant when you are on your own.
We must learn to be selfish, but realise that there are two kinds of selfish. One is "Stupid Selfish" which is when you try to get what you want at the expense of others, that is greed, short sighted and stupid.
The other is "Smart Selfish" which is when you try to get what you want by helping other people to get what they want. This is intelligent and has long term sustainable benefits.
Learn to measure the quality of your days, not by how many people made you happy but by how many people you have made happy. Make this your motto;
I shall pass through this world but once, any good that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect to do it, for I shall not pass this way again.
If you can't help them at least don't hurt them. Understand that every person is a cog in the wheel of life. Every person no matter what their current state or status has an important role to play. Imagine taking a wind-up watch apart, finding the smallest cog and breaking just one tooth off that cog, then putting the watch back together again. Do you think that it will work properly if at all?
It is up to each one of us to do what we can to raise the economic, educational and moral standards of ourselves and our fellow citizens. We can only experience our humanness through our service to other humans. We are individual. yet we are all one. We are separate yet interconnected. So understand this "We are like angels with only one wing. We can only fly when we are helping someone else to fly."
