The Thing
There are many problems in life, kind of like endless itches and glitches that need scratched and resolved. If we're poor, we have to struggle to support ourselves because there is . . . never enough money. If we're rich, then we have the typical problems of rich people - trying not only to tenaciously hold onto our wealth, but increase it as much as possible because there is . . . never enough money. If we are married, we have married people's problems - control and disagreements. If we are single, we have single people's problems - loneliness and insecurity.

You Can Talk the Talk, But Can You Walk the Walk?
There are two faces of religion; that which we profess, and that which we project. Our professed religion follows our scriptures and our beliefs and are what we declare to be our truths, our ideals. It's the talk we talk. Our projection of our religion is how we act, what we say, how we say it, and what and how we think. It's the walk we walk. For example, we might profess love, but project (openly or surreptitiously) hatefulness if someone disagrees with our religion.

The Dawning of Depression
If we at least had enough to live on and make expenses, that would be enough. And enough to pay off the house, which isn't worth much anymore. Oh, and maybe provide for our healthcare, which is going to get very expensive in the very near future, and we better pay it or they will take our house! Oh, and enough in the bank for emergencies, home repairs, vehicle replacements; and maybe some investments to stave off inflation, and maybe enough to help out our kids, and help our grandchildren with college, and an occasional holiday or vacation.

What Represents Truth to You?
Truth is not what we believe truth to be. Whatever we see, whatever we hear, whatever we think, whatever we believe is not truth. Truth manifests beyond that. We might say that our religion is truth, but our religions are no more than a set of beliefs, and beliefs can never be truth, only conventional wisdom based on something that we read or heard, or our own past experience. Belief can never be truth, just as reading about something and repeating it can never capture the experience, and even religious experiences always seems to follow our heritage and culture; our conditioning.

The Religious Versus Seekers of Truth
Humanity has always looked to the transcendent, a human trait pursued in many ways. And who can really say which way is right or wrong regarding an inherent desire to transcend this earthly life when our time is up. The religious insist that they are right, and spiritual seekers say likewise. So in order to solve this spiritual conundrum, I came up with thirty distinguishing features (and counting) of both groups, so that you may make a judgment. Please do not infer that these features are all right or all wrong, they are only different ways to approach a most interesting subject.

Dateline: Los Angeles May 15, 2030 - U.S. Government Cancelled
By a narrow margin, both houses of congress agreed to cancel the Government of the United States. After years of struggle, President Polin has finally fulfilled her mother's dream; the total end of government control. On the streets of L.A. can be heard the celebratory exclamations this morning: "No more payroll taxes! Yay! No more Social Security or Medicare taxes! Yay! No more military expenses (Yay!) No more post offices or schools! Yay! No more costly VA.

I’m Right - You’re Wrong
It's obvious that other people, when they disagree with us, are just plain wrong. And when we confront these kinds of people, our only alte ative is to let them know in no uncertain terms that they are not only wrong, but apparently stupid for disagreeing with us about something so obviously apparent. It's unbelievable that people can be so messed up. Of course, the other person feels the exact same way about us! It's not that they somehow realize that they are stupid and forge ahead anyway.

Cutting the Umbilical Chord
It's obvious that only after young adults leave home do they find their own potential and blossom in their own way. The bittersweet acknowledgement of this reflects a mature relationship with parent and child. This is a cutting of the umbilical chord with our children, offering them a chance of individual development, and freedom to explore their new world on their terms. Freedom: Are there other umbilical chords that can be cut that offer freedom for ourselves?

The Long Sleep
We look in the mirror and notice a new wrinkle. Oh my God! I'm getting old! But I'm only forty-four! Let's see, Americans live to an average age of seventy seven. That gives me thirty-four more years! Wait a minute, Japanese live to be eighty one! I do eat a lot of fish. Maybe I have thirty seven years left. Wait another minute - I quit smoking! That has to add a few. Of course mom and dad died in their fifties (probably because of me), hmm, but I guess that doesn't help my longevity too much. Of course, I've always been lucky.

Buddhism - Too Real For Americans?
Similar to Christianity, Buddhism has many branches. The original doctrine that the Buddha taught his monks is called the Theravada or the Teaching of the Elders, but this very deep teaching may be too strange and frightening for everyday Americans. This unpopularity is not unusual when we consider the deeper teachings of many religions, such as Kabbalah in Judaism and Orison in Christianity. People usually talk a good story about God, but don't want to really go there, opting instead for earthly glories such as sex, money, power, security and entertainment. Familiar things.

H.B.I.T.S. Syndrome - The Silent Killer
H.B.I.T.S. is more widespread than originally thought, mainly because it goes unreported. The reason for this is that on the surface, it doesn't seem to be all that serious. But as a matter of record, H.B.I.T.S. could be called the silent killer. One of the major symptoms of H.B.I.T.S. is a sudden and drastic lapse of intelligence that becomes problematic when this lapse turns into a chronic disorder.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from E. (anagarika eddie) Raymond Rock
Understand that it is the calm mind which aids and supports the development of wisdom, and the extent to which it aids wisdom depends on the strength of the calm mind. Calmness can be coarse, adequate or refined, and will thereby promote wisdom that is likewise coarse, adequate, or refined. Therefore, it is in your best interests to develop a calm mind to the highest degree possible without becoming attached to the calmness. If we become attached, which is easy to do because of the peace the calm mind induces, we will be hesitant to move forward with the work of Investigation. Investigation is the work that is crucial if we are to ever acquire the refined wisdom necessary to free us from our cycles of birth and death.
