I have found that most people into awakening, enlightenment and non-duality see abundance as an egoic desire born of New Thought materialist spirituality – something for Oprah fans and not genuine spiritual seekers who attend satsangs and meditative retreats. Yet being abundant has more in common with the abundance of being than they realize.

Spiritual Awakening is not about transcending the flawed dualistic world; it is about ending the dualistic beliefs underlying flawed and flawless. So, rather than transcending the world; it transcends the division within us. This means it is not the end of separation; it is the realization that Oneness and separation are themselves holistically One.

It’s not easy being God in that He is all we want to be in and of ourselves, yet what we feel we can’t be without His assistance. Consequently, He is cure and crutch, Love and Judgment, and the all-powerful Light whose inaction makes possible the Dark. God’s ambivalence is deeply troubling – especially with His monotheistic guise – and ideas like free will, fate, predestination, Satan serving as God’s tempter or a cosmic battle betwee Good and Evil don’t really resolve His inaction.

Have you ever noticed how many Law of Attraction experts create their wealth through selling abundance-creating material (books, CDS, seminars, coaching, affiliate programs, etc.) to abundance seekers? Is this really the law of attraction at work or just unscrupulous opportunism meets marketing genius? Add to this some pseudoscience and uncited statistical evidence – that 78% of people know is false anyway ; ) - and is it any wonder that so many people are skeptical of the law of attraction and see abundance seekers as mugs for New WAge (note the W) snake oil!

What we put beyond our reach remains beyond our reach. Awakening, enlightenment, God-realization, Self-realization, whatever you want to call it, is our natural state. When we place it on a pedestal we fail to recognize this and become like a dog chasing its own tail since no view that divides us can unite us.

The essence of holistic non-duality is the recognition that non-duality is never separate from duality. Simply put, they are “not two” because non-duality devoid of duality is itself dualistic. Holistic non-duality does not transcend the world; it transcends the division within us. It is what the adage “to be in the world but not of it” really means.

The truly holistic understanding of awakening is not at odds with humanness. It is not even at odds with the ego. If anything, it approaches spiritual self-inquiry via the ego – particularly the psychological shadow – because it is this that blocks out the light of infinite being.

We often look to traditional paradigms of Wholeness for insights into the nature of Love, but seldom look to Love for insights into the nature of traditional paradigms of Wholeness, i.e. look at Wholeness through the eyes of Love. Yet Love offers us a clear understanding of what it is to be Whole and prevents us from getting lost in the mental gymnastics of trying to explain the unexplainable. Simply put, Love is beyond paradigms.

The ancient wisdom of emptiness (also known as nothingness (no-thingness)) lies at the heart of the Buddhist wisdom tradition, but unfortunately it is for the most part either unknown or misunderstood by the modern spiritual audience. Yet emptiness is incredibly important because it can free us from subtle identities beyond the familiar understanding of the ego that stand in the way of awakening.

As you know, Wholeness underlies all things. It encompasses all that exists yet is beyond anything that can be termed to exist – it is ineffable but also deeply paradoxical as we are in and of the Whole yet experience ourselves as separate from it. That is why deep down we feel so isolated and alone as though we are cast adrift within this vast oceanic Oneness.

I like to call the openness to non-conceptual reality ‘intuitive logic’ or ‘intuitive reason’ since the term is an oxymoron and a paradox that can explain everything or nothing depending on whether you have erected a conceptual fence to stand on.

Subject and object arise together and dissolve together. And yet, in truth, there is no subject, and no object. There is only what’s happening. And even that is saying too much. – Jeff Foster

Here is just emptiness. There is no getting my ego out of the way, and all that stuff. There is just the seeing, shining in great brilliance and clarity. – Douglas Harding
