Yin and Yang To understand the ancient books of Oriental philosophy such as Taoism and the Tao Te Ching one has to understand Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang is the continuous rhythm of life that continually pulsates through the universe, in the seemingly separate but in truth one complementary actions called Yin and Yang. The T'ai-chi T'u diagram illustrates this principle. The symmetrical disposition of the dark Yin and the light Yang suggests cyclical changes. When Yin reaches its climax, it recedes into Yang, then after Yang reaches its climax it recedes back to Yin.

Tao Te Ching: Verse 76 A man is born gentle and weak. At his death he is hard and stiff. Green plants are tender and filled with sap. At their death they are withered and dry. Therefore the stiff and unbending is the way of death. The gentle and yielding is the way of life. Thus an army without flexibility never wins a battle. A tree that is unbending is easily broken. The hard and strong will fall. The soft and weak will overcome. What is Lao Tzu asking us to consider in Verse 76? It seems he is asking us to be flexible

Have you noticed that some people struggle through life while others seem to effortlessly advance. Have you noticed or wondered why some have to work very hard for little; while others seem to achieve so much with seemingly little effort. I am not talking about people who lie or cheat or get things, but good people who seem happy and relaxed while achieving mush with no to little struggle on their part. We see it many times in great athletes. They soar through the air, hit a golf ball, or move beautifully with almost no effort, no forced struggle.

As a master coach on the Tao Te Ching I have been asked many times to explain in simple language the Tao Te Ching Eastern teachings of "Letting Go" Letting go is the one of the key mysteries to manuvering our way through life. It is however one of the hardest for our those of us raised in the western world to understand and accept This resistance is because it is counterintuitive to everything modern society tells us. We are taught that striving, forcing, winning and struggling to reach our goal is necessary to achieve anything worthwhile.

You just lost your job and I know you are not wanting to hear trite sayings but the truth is: While it can be considered a blessing or a curse the thing about life is that " the game is always changing." If it didn't how would we get better. The first thing you must do to find the perfect career or job is to right now open your mind to all possibilities, do not be closed minded. If you are closed minded and think it is a lousy time to look for a job and that their is nothing out there then read no further. You will only waste your time.

Living and Enjoying “NOW” The essence of Zen teachings is taking our awareness deeply into “Now”. Current and past sages, saints, gurus and teachers have always tried to get us to understand that to eliminate pain and suffering from our lives we have to shift our consciousness from the past and the future to the now. Their teachings were designed to heighten our consciousness. To get us out of our unconscious false egos and to live consciously in the present… the only time there actually is… Now. Zen master Rinza, in order to shift his student’s minds and thoughts of past

Do you know how to quiet that voice in your head and stop its constant chatter. Are you aware that voice is not you, but your thoughts, some call it ego, masquerading as you. As humans, we seem to travel a wacky backwards path to learning life's lessons. Take, for instance, learning how to live in the present moment - the only moment there truly is. Most of us have to go backwards and forwards to learn how to get right back to where we are - the here and now. We try to live in the past, or we try to quickly get to the future. The million-dollar question is why do we do that?

When we were young most of us growing up felt very secure. The world seemed to be working well. Then as we got older we started to see the chinks in the armor society had created. Now as we are even older we see that the society we thought was perfect is broken and about to collapse. What happened? While it will take books upon books to adequately explain what went wrong I will try to just topically address it in this short blog.
