What Millennials Can Teach Us About Positivity

How can a group of 80 million young Americans suffering from mind-bogglingly high unemployment rates still be positive, buoyant and survive? Leave it to Millennials to do exactly that. With $200 billion in buying power, they are optimistic, confident, self-expressive, liberal, upbeat and open to change—according to research from the Pew Research Center. Once you “get” the importance of positivity for these young men and women, you have the key to effectively connect with them. Simply put, they have little or no room for negativity in their lives.

Prevent Temper Don't Manage It

From simple annoyance to fiery rage, loss of temper, with its emotional and physiological mayhem, so mess with your life that it’s time to prevent, not just manage the thunder. Lashing out in anger over even the smallest slights or obstacles only makes sense if your goal is to strip yourself of peace and inflame your bitte ess and indignation.

Secrets to Living Well: Victory Not Mediocrity

When it comes to living really well, many confuse doing so with looking good, feeling good, or having the goods. This leads people to chase after such goods as fake tans, plastic surgery, feel good drugs, virtual friendships, the mansion on the hill—preferably overlooking the water, making and spending as much as they possibly can, and erroneously and irrationally believing that they can and, worse, must have it all. We gullibly, foolishly and unquestionably believe the ads designed to sell us this nonsense.

Charism: It's Easier Than You Think

George Eliot noted, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” If who you might have been is someone with more charisma, it’s definitely not too late to learn how to be just that. There you are at the podium, presentation in hand but you’ve got one problem. Your hands are perspired and shaking. You are so busy telling yourself that you don’t have the charisma you need to communicate, captivate and motivate your audience, that you wish the ceiling would collapse and everyone would just run out, saving you from your self-predicted failure.

How a NAME Will Improve Your Relationships

So you want to improve the way you and your spouse, partner, co-worker or friends at the gym communicate? There probably isn’t anyone anywhere that believes there isn’t room to improve in this most fundamental skill of life. If you disagree, at least do it agreeably ☺. The very structure of, for example, marriage, includes two people – two different people, often from different backgrounds, sometimes from different faiths or different cultural experiences, even different educational backgrounds, with all kinds of different tastes, styles and dreams.

Are You on The Most Important "Best Of" List This Year?

There is an African-American proverb that says, “God makes three requests of His children: Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have, now.” It’s that time of the year again, when the “Best of_____” lists begin to appear. You know these lists. They include everything from the best beaches to the best hotels to the best restaurants and doctors and hair salons and gyms and trainers and, and, and…r

It is the time of year when people, especially it seems, millennials, report feeling depressed and unhappy. The less sunshine we see, the more dreary, blue, grumpy, low and unhappy people feel. What’s worse, these negative emotions lead to eating more carbs, weight gain, increased sleep and difficulty concentrating. And this is the holiday season????r

Whose Store Are You Running?

My family owned shoe stores in Newark, N.J., when I was growing up. I worked in their stores from the time I was seven years old. One day, my grandfather brought me outside to teach me an important lesson. He pointed out the competitor down the street and told me to observe what he was doing. The man didn’t seem to be doing anything much, other than standing in front of his store for quite awhile watching the people come into our family’s store and walking out with bags of shoes.
