Zoology was considered as a science after Aristotle wrote “History of animals” around 350 BC. The following listed below are the top ten zoologist of all time.

1. Charles Darwin
Charles Robert Darwin – English naturalist- He is notable for the scientific theory. He published his theory with compelling evidence for evolution in his 1859 book On the Origin of Species, overcoming scientific rejection of earlier concepts of transmutation of species.

2. Alfred Russel Wallacer
Alfred Russel Wallace – British naturalist- He is not only a naturalist he is also notable in the field of explorer, geographer, anthropologist and biologist. He is notable for independently proposing a theory of evolution due to natural selection that prompted Charles Darwin to publish his own theory.

3. Dian Fosseyr
Dian Fossey- American zoologist- She had an extensive study of gorilla groups over a period of 18 years. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda, initially expectant to work there by famous anthropologist Louis Leakey. She founded the Karisoke Research Center.

4. Dame Jane Morris Goodallr
Dame Jane Morris Goodall –British- She worked in the field of primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace. She is considered to be the world’s leading specialist on chimpanzees, Goodall is best known for her 45-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues.

Sir David Frederick Attenborough is a broadcaster and naturalist. He was called up for National Service in the Royal Navy. He is best known for writing and presenting the nine Life series, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, which together form a complete survey of all life on the planet.
