1. Fear sucks: I wonder where the word fear comes from and what it does to man when it arrives. Indeed I do not have the answer now but I know fear is not what anyone would desire to live with.
I have seen myself go down the drain and lose a lot of energy out of fear. I have seen friends cry over nothing out of fear. And people die out of fear.
My personal experience is when I went before a music lecturer for an oral test. I had prepared to blow my flutes and answer few easy-to-manage questions for some marks. When I got to the room I shivered before the lecturer and obviously she spotted my folly and said ‘why are you panicking young man’? I managed to cool down a bit but seemed that was not enough. When I was asked to blow my flute it was a bizarre. I couldn’t get my notes right. I was virtually empty and was sweating all over. Fear had sucked all the energy with which I entered the room. Fear really sucks.
I will at this juncture side with Marie Curie who said-“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood”. Many of us for fear of failure have failed to take the initiatives that have the potential of turning our lives round for the better -as well as the people around us. A potential entrepreneur may shut the door to his or her dream business for fear of loan inaccessibility or “what friends may say if I fail syndrome “. Psychologists say when we confront a perceived danger, our bodies respond in specific ways-sweating, increased heart rate and high adrenaline levels-known as “fight or flight” response, in which the body prepares itself to either enter combat or run away. Combat is the best option to restore your energy back for greater works. Never retreat-forge on and conquer.
2. A ‘can do attitude’ defeats fear’. You can be endowed with thousand and one business ideas or may be confronted with the need to make a decision. As you allow your mind to process these ideas there will seem to be questions running through your mind-‘can you do it’?, ‘is it possible’. Many a times this happens when you consider your very present situation. For instance If you dream of becoming an entrepreneur right after college, you may be confronted with questions such as ‘is my idea genuine enough’?, ‘does it have the potential of generating profit’?, ‘do I have the resources to start’?. At this point your response to these questions may determine your next step.
Saying ‘yes ’ to these initial questions will propel you to the next level of, ‘how’. At this juncture you have given your mind the chance to scan through the available information in your system and in the environment to determine possible ways of achieving your dreams.
It will also create a ripple effect. Here more ideas will be created and your mind will be able to settle on the most feasible one. It will also increase your level of confidence in achieving your dreams. Give fear no chance
