I know not everyone is a morning person. There are a few people who literally bounce out of bed at the sound of the alarm clock, but most of us fall on the sliding scale betwee
“mild reluctance” and pillow-burrowing, “I don’t wanna!” dread.
While I don’t promise you’ll jump out of bed like an over-caffeinated Tigger, I can promise that you’ll find yourself less and less dependent on your “Snooze” button.
1.– Purpose – I have a whole other blog about this and I’ve mentioned it a couple of times over the past few months because I believe it’s really important. It’s essentially asking the questio
“Why am I getting out of bed today?” The answer should reflect the passion and therefore the purpose in your life. Once you’ve identified what that passion and purpose is, just thinking about it – or about your plan to further pursue that purpose – when you wake up can energize you. A strong sense of purpose can also be generated by having made a really clear day plan the night before. I’ve also touched on that in past blogs and in my free report on productivity.
2.– People – Human contact is a marvelous thing. I am constantly astounded by the capacity for good in people. One way to find this – and get energized about your day – is to pick one person to connect with, and get excited about bringing a new level of excellence to that relationship.
It’s easy to get energized about connecting with people you’re excited to build a relationship with. However, you can also get energized about facing people you have difficulty dealing with. Just look at the situation as a challenge instead of an obstacle, and use the definition of challenge as that which calls you to be your greatest. Having a positive outlook from the beginning will also help you sustain that good energy throughout the day instead of draining your energy by dreading the encounter.
My participants in today’s M5 seemed to agree with me when I asked what energized them in the morning. The answers ranged from loving what they did to looking forward to seeing the potential in both themselves and the day. I think those are truly inspiring answers. How about you? How do you get energized in the morning?
And if you still have a problem driving that bleary-eyed reluctance away, give me a call. Let’s focus on it together.

Oh, What a Year It Was!
Oh, What a Year It Was! I recently shared with our Best Life Design Community, an exercise by Dan Pearce of Single Dad Laughing (http://bit.ly/fGL6t0) shaking up the New Year’s resolutions process. Instead of listing everything he wanted to happen in the New Year, Dan created a future memory at the beginning of the year about how the year progressed. We encouraged our Community to write their own 2011 in review, so it’s only right that I get the ball rolling and share mine. Here it goes…

Excerpt From Street Hockey Millionaire
“You know what they say,” Pete said. “You’ve got to play the full 60 minutes if you want to win.” Steve began, “Let’s get started. Did everyone write some game plans for their highest priority goals?” Pete replied, “ We haven’t had time yet, Steve, but we’re going to do it this week.” Steve ...

Too busy to look after your finances?
So here he was, stuck in the office instead of watching his son play hockey. Meanwhile, Steve was out playing street hockey for three hours a day with his kids. What weighed more on Pete’s brain was that street hockey used to be the love of his life now, it was just a nuisance. Although he’d ...

Numbing Away Our Humanity?
I came across a video this week that features a new technology that captures people’s attention in a novel way. It’s worth watching simply to take a look and ask how you might use it in your business. But its value far surpasses this. In this video, Sir Ken Robinson, makes a powerful call for a paradigm shift in education. This struck me at a deep level, given my raising of 3 kids (including one we home schooled for a couple of years to provide him more of what he needed at the time) and my work on behalf of lower opportunity kids in the non-profit sector.
