Overcoming procrastination may be difficult for most people when the "negative feeling" strikes. However, it should become easier for you because you have to create achievement and fulfill several things in life.
The feeling of procrastination can slow you down greatly and when this happens your motivation falls down and which affects your productivity at work.
Sometimes it may take longer to bring back your momentum again to the point in which you can maintain doing things, continuing in sequence because it is something that you build up from the start of your work.
These 4 tested techniques can help you move on with your work when this feeling strikes.
1. Looking Forward to Your Goals
Overcoming procrastination would require you to have strong personal goals. The goals are the reason why you are trying to work out on something.
For example: You may be exerting great effort for a project because you're looking for a promising outcome, a result that will make you fulfilled and happy.
You should reflect and remind yourself sometimes of what is going to happen when you finish a certain task or activity. This way you can get inspired to continue despite the difficulties you'll experience as you move on and progress.
2. Avoid Unnecessary Distractions
Distractions may come anytime and when you least expect them. They also come in different forms and ways. Overcoming procrastination would require you to avoid the things that will trigger this negative feeling!
Here are a few examples:
a. A sudden phone calls and emails from friends and associates
b. Noise and movements from surroundings
c. Chats and gossips from people around you
d. Sudden requests and favors that is asked from you
If a certain distraction can be avoided you should avoid it as much as possible depending on the circumstances. Whenever you stop working on something, you'll have to bring your motivation back again and rebuild your momentum.
3. Learn How to Deal with Stress
Overcoming procrastination involves dealing with the stress you experience when doing something. You should be ready with this and be adjustable. Stress is unavoidable because you exert effort like thinking and solving problems. Without stress there won't be any growth with your performance and abilities.
However too much stress when left uncontrolled may cause you "burn out," losing your motivation altogether or may lead you to procrastinate because you're tired of doing things.
Stress can be overcome by using relaxation techniques such as:
a. Deep breathing exercises
b. Quiet meditation and healthy rest
c. Getting inspiration from beautiful sceneries like nature
d. Spending time with family and your hobbies
There are many creative ways to overcome stress that you can apply.
4. Make Things as Simple as Possible
Life can be "complicated" because people desire many different kinds of things. You should know that it can be hard to get satisfied with just desiring all sorts of things in life.
You may be exerting much physical and mental energy just to acquire different kinds of things, which most of them you don't really need. When life gets hard for you because it's complicated you may resort to procrastinate when you have to do important work because there's the feeling that things are going to be tough as usual with all the requirements to live your life.
You should prefer "simplicity" as much as possible so you can focus more on the tasks you need to fulfill and reach the goals you're aiming for.
