No two people are alike, so it only stands to reason that no two sales scripts should be alike. You are going to meet a lot of different people when you are a small business owner, and you will find that you will probably be dealing with each of them in a slightly different way. You will not always be using the same sales script. Yes, the information will basically be the same, but your presentation is going to be different for everyone. Here are four excellent reasons why you should never rely on the same sales script for every customer: You should only need a script in the beginning anyway: You may need to have a script in the beginning, but after a while, your sales pitch should come second nature to you, and you should be able to adapt it to all of your potential customers. Yes, using a script is going to be a huge help at first, but it is not something that you should be relying on for your entire sales career. After a while, you will be able to adapt your script to your own personality, and when you add a little personality to your sales pitch, you will find that you go a lot further than just seeming like you are reading from a script. This is something that customers are going to notice, and they will like the fact that you seem natural at what you are doing. Scripts are way too rigid and cold: When you have a particular sales script you use, you probably tend not to stray too far from it. This can really become a problem, because after a while, if you use them enough, you will automatically go into script mode when meeting with potential customers, and you will not be able to stray from your script, which is never going to sound completely natural, no matter how often you do it. This is a turn-off to many prospective customers, because they will not feel like you are passionate about what you are trying to sell. Scripting doesn't allow you to get personal with your customers: When you have your entire script planned out, you are not leaving an opening to really get to know your customers, which is going to be the key factor in being able to really serve them well. If you let your sales pitch just roll naturally off your tongue, there are many more opportunities to really get more personal with your clients (not too personal though), and you will be able to show them that you care about them and their needs, and are the person to be able to help them. You can't grow when you use a script: If you are always using a sales script, you will never know if you have the ability to sell your product or service without one. When you do not follow a script, you are allowing yourself to grow as a sales person. Sure, you are going to make all kinds of mistakes along the way, but that is how you learn. You can sell a little bit using a script, but when you are simply being yourself, you will sell a whole lot more.
