“In the book of life, the answers aren’t in the back.” Charlie Brown of Peanuts fame said that, and boy was he ever right. Anyone over the age of adolescence is somewhere along in the process of learning that there are very few right answers when it comes to living. And who would want it to be any different?

If the way to live the perfect life were all laid out in an instruction book to be followed step-by-step, well how much fun would that be? But we all crave a little good advice now and then, and some of the best advice to be found is in the words of the wisest, and sometimes the most foolish, among us. If you’re a connoisseur of quotations you’ve probably noticed that one of the main themes running through the thoughts of the sages who pontificate on life is - have fun!

So in the spirit of that wisdom here are five funny quotes about living life that will hopefully make you smile, maybe even laugh, and possibly make you think.

“The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.” - Lily Tomlin

Humility and empathy for our fellow human beings is one of the most important of life’s lessons, sadly one that often doesn’t get learned. Too often success leads to arrogance and vanity, a terrible prison to live in. As the Bible says “pride goeth before a fall.” And sometimes you just want to stick a leg out and help someone along.

“It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.” - Anonymous

Have you ever considered that? That maybe your purpose in life is to serve as an example to others of what not to do? We should try to accept our place in life, even while striving to do more. And hey, some people find great success in failure. But if you’re lot in life is to be a loser, be the best you can be.

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” - Charles Schulz

Translation: Don’t forget to take some time to take care of you. A little pampering never killed anybody.

“Don’t look back, somebody might be gaining on you.” - Satchel Paige

Leave the past in the past and look forward to the future. A roll-your-eyes cliche that’s easier said than done. Try to picture the past chasing you with a club. It really helps.

“When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep — not screaming, like the passengers in his car.” - Anonymous

Boy, that Anonymous sure did have a way with words. No moral here, just a reminder to take some time today to laugh, smile, and try not to take life too seriously. Plenty of time for that tomorrow.
