Believe it or not, there are a few things that everyone can learn about running their own business right from their grandmothers. No, they probably don't have any extraordinary business skills. But, they do have other skills and experiences that can definitely translate into the business world. One of the most important things when you are in business is to be great at customer service, and as we all know, Granny can deal with just about anyone. Here are a few of the lessons that you can learn from Granny about customer service: Be positive. Have you ever noticed that no matter what your grandmother has been through in life, she is still able to always be smiling and cheerful? This is because she has learned to make the most out of every situation. She has learned how to turn negatives into positives. She has life experience, and she knows how to use it in a positive way to influence those around her. You can learn a lot about a positive attitude from Granny. Handle all situations with love and a smile. Granny always dealt with your tantrums when you were a child in a way that made you feel like you were loved, even when you were being punished. She used tact and a strong hand with a soft voice. This is a great lesson to remember when you are in business and dealing with customers. Not everyone is going to be happy all the time, and you need to be able to diffuse any situation with tact. Show them that you respect them the same way your grandmother would, and you will see a difference in the attitudes of your customers. Have patience. One of the things about grandmothers is the incredible amount of patience they have, not just with their grandchildren, but with everyone. Here is another great lesson that can be taken right from Granny’s book You need to have patience when dealing with your customers, and there are going to be times when you will have to say or do things that you normally would not just to keep them happy. Be patient just like Granny, and you will be well rewarded with loyal customers who like to deal with you. Be soft but firm. Granny always had that air of authority around her, yet she never raised her voice. This is because throughout her life, she has learned that it is better to be firm about things, but to always use a soft voice. But, even though the voice was soft, you always knew that you had better listen to everything she said and you obeyed her. This is a great way to be when you are in business. Speak softly and don't talk over people, but at the same time, be firm and always stand your ground, just like Granny would do. Tell stories. One of the most fun things about visiting Granny as a child was getting to sit on her knee and listen to all of the great stories she had to tell. Even as adults, we love to hear stories, and you can go a long way in business if you have the same great story telling skills as Granny. You can use your stories as sales tools, entertaining your customers while influencing them to buy whatever it is that you are selling. Take a few lessons from Granny, and you will certainly end up with a loyal customer base and the profits to prove it.
