Do you dread the weekend because there is always so much
to do and you are glad to get back to work? If getting rid of clutter is something you want to do but you get tired just thinking about it here are 5 ironclad organizing tips to get you going.
Don't you just love Monday's? Without a Monday we wouldn't have Fridays and everyone I know loves Fridays. Fridays mean the work week is over and we can start having some fun for a few days or it may mean we switch from doing one kind of work to another.
When someone asks me Monday morning how my weekend went I usually have to stop and think because I have moved on. It doesn't mean it wasn't good or bad, it was just another part of my week.
Weekends can actually be very stressful with all the errands, cleaning, children's activities to run them to, and trying to do everything on your "to do" list. Or they can be a happy memory that you have accomplished most if not all of the things you planned on doing. It can be satisfying when you actually take some time for yourself. These 5 tips can help you get organized
for a fabulous weekend.
1. If you have planned on getting rid of clutter on the weekend do it slowly so you don't get burnt out. When you estimate how long it will take to do a certain project and then it takes longer than you expected (this is the story of my life and I have learned to double the amount of time I think it will take) don't consider yourself a failure. Put the project back on your to-do list and plan on completing it at another time. Give yourself a pat on the back for starting it in the first place and making progress-no matter how small you think it was.
2. As you think of all the things you "need" to do, include fun things you want to do. It could be taking time to watch a movie or a sporting event on T.V. Set a schedule for yourself that rotates the fun things with the "must do's". I started doing this several years ago and I find I do the things I "must do" quicker so I can get to my fun projects.
3. Multitask--when you are sitting at a practice or some activity of your child's that you don't need to be watching constantly, or at half time or on time outs take along something you want or need to do that you can do during those down times. When my children were little I knit several sweaters during these down times. Knitting was something I enjoyed but didn't seem to find time to do.
4. Errands--when running errands group locations together so you make the best use of your time to save time. Even better if someone else in your home can run errands give them a list of what you need done and send them to do it.
Shopping online can save a lot of time. Even ordering your groceries from a store that delivers is a big time saver. My friend does this to save not only time but money as she doesn't deviate from her list when she's not in the store being enticed by something she doesn't need. She said this has helped her get rid of clutter because it never enters her kitchen as something that looked like she would like to try but never did and it ends up cluttering her shelves.
5. Make getting rid a clutter a family activity instead of you doing it all alone. Teach and train other family members how to get rid of clutter and what this means to you. Show them what to do. It takes a bit more work in the beginning but the rewards are great and you see them doing it by themselves.
Weekends can be fun and rewarding, you can get rid of clutter, find time for yourself and family and be rested for the week to come by following these 5 simple tips.
