One of the best ways to know how you are doing with your sales is to be able to measure them. Metrics are very important to every business, and by using them properly, you can really start working to increase your sales and profits. If you have a business, you more than likely have a website, and if you want to get the most profits out of that website, here are five metrics you can use that will help you to increase your profits: Who Stays and Who Goes Not everyone who visits a website buys something. In fact, the majority of people will visit a website a few times before actually making a purchase. Do you know how many people are just visiting, and how many are actually making purchases? This is one of the metrics you need to study in order to be able to find ways to get the visitors more interested so they will start making purchases. If you do not know how many customers you actually have and how many just visit, you cannot make those necessary changes. Total Conversions It is fun to take a look at all of the metrics and see what the actual numbers are, and how many leads you are converting into actual customers. The important thing now is to make sure that these customers are actually making purchases. After all, just by signing up for a newsletter, liking a Facebook page, or taking a survey is not necessarily going to profit your business in any way at all. The trick is to find ways to convert these people into actual paying customers and not only need to look at your conversions, but also at the cost of your conversions. It is not going to profit you if it is costing too much to gain new customers and you may have to look for other methods to cut costs or ways of converting customers for less. Who Are Your Loyal Customers? Your metrics will show how many of your customers are return or long-time customers. You will see how successful you are in the retention of customers and how many of your customers are loyal to you and/or your brand. This will help you to learn exactly what it is that you are doing right, so you can continue working this way with future customers, retaining them for life as well. How Valuable are Lifelong Customers? One of the most important things for every small business is to have loyal, lifelong customers who bring repeat business to you. Not only are you getting sales from these customers, they more than likely are referring others to your business as well. Use your metrics to study how long people have been customers, what they purchase and how much they spend each time, how often and the lifetime value of them as well as their shopping history, and more. Where Are Your Referrals Coming From? It is extremely important that you are able to keep track of the referrals your business is getting. You need to know where all of your referrals are coming from. For instance, what percentage of your website traffic comes to you because they found you on a search engine? How many heard about you from another article on the Internet? These, and others, are all things that you need to keep track of so that you can figure out which marketing is working best for you and cut back (or cut out completely) on the ones that are not working so well. This is going to cut costs, and increase your profits.
