Developing new leads is something that is always on the minds of any small business owner, but unfortunately, they are not always as successful with their lead generating endeavors as they expected. Is this something that you are having difficulties with? It is not always easy getting out there and generating new leads, and if you are not constantly looking for more and better results, it may be because you just don't understand the fine nuances of lead generating. Here are five reasons why you may be having trouble generating new leads for your business: It's all a number game: Sales are basically a numbers game, and you need to work hard to ensure that you are getting the numbers you really want. This is where your schmoozing and sales skills are going to come in. But, before you can deliver your pitch, you have to know how to get those leads, which means getting out there and meeting new people at every opportunity. Set a target, and try to reach that target every time you go out there. After a while, you will find that you reach it more often than not, and you will be generating all kinds of new leads. Don't talk too much about yourself or your business: People don't want to hear about you or your business. They only want to know what it is you are offering, and what kind of value you can provide to them. If you talk about yourself or the company too much, you are more than likely going to be boring a lot of potential customers, and you won't have the sales you long for. Make your sales calls about your customer, and what you can do for them, not the other way around. Don't trash talk your competitors: If you are negative in your comments about other businesses, it is going to give people a negative impression of you. Even though you don't want to promote your competition, sometimes you may just have to in order to really get what you want, which is sales for your own business. When you are negative about your competition, you will cause potential customers to wonder why you are being so negative. Are you insecure about your own business? Can they really trust you? Staying positive is a much better way to do business, and never, never trash anyone else. Make sure you offer value: If there is one thing that everyone wants these days, it is to make sure that they are getting their money's worth out of all of their purchases. If you are not offering true value to your potential customers, they are probably never actually going to become your customers. You can do this by making sure that you have excellent products, offer the best possible customer service, have great prices, and a great return policy, and there are many other things you can do as well. Finish everything you start: We all tend to procrastinate once in a while, but if you procrastinate too much, there are many important things you are not going to get done for your business, including generating new sales leads. If you have sales calls that need to be made, do it, don't wait until later. The longer you wait, the more you are going to end up having to do, and you may be missing out on some leads because you waited too long. Don't let anything stand in the way of your success, including the tendency to procrastinate.
