Being the head honcho and calling the shots of a multinational company is nothing to scoff at. This is a major accomplishment that some people work their entire lives for, but very few are actually to gain such a prestigious position within a firm.
It’s likely that you put in a lot of hours in order to become the CEO of a company. But now that you've reached the pinnacle, you should expect even more early mornings and late nights. This is especially true with multi-national companies because of time differences between countries.
Once you have taken over the reigns at as the CEO of a multinational company, there are a few key things that you should do. Even if things are running smoothly for your company, here are some things that should be done as soon as control has been taken of the company.
Address Your Employeesr
The first thing that new CEOs must do when they take control of a company is address their employees. Though it’s certainly going to be better to do so through a in-person conference, it may be easier to do via email. Whatever the case may be, it’s important to get this initial statement out there. This will help to show your presence and also get the attention of your employees.
When talking with the employees, it’s a chance to tell them that you are proud to be in charge of the company and that you look forward to making great strides with each and every one of them. Some employees may fear that a change in leadership may mean that a lot of things are going to change inside of the company. This isn’t always good, as it could cause shakeup and for people to have to change what they do each day. It’s important for CEOs to remember that most employees may just be at a job to collect a paycheck, and they may stop caring if their job increases in demand. However, this can be resolved by taking the time to talk with everyone and get them motivated for the transitional time ahead.
Get In Contact With Foreign Company Leaders
CEOs of multinational companies should also take the time to get in touch with the leaders of companies that they do relations with internationally. Just like the employees, many of the business partners that a multinational company has may get a bit apprehensive if they see that a company is changing leadership. They may wonder why, as well as what other changes may take place. However, new CEOs can take the time to introduce themselves, as well as ensure the business partners that everything is going to be great with a change of leadership and new direction.
Restate The Direction Of The Companyr
Speaking of that direction, now is the perfect time to state it. If your company has been doing great and there is no need to change direction, that is fine. However, you don’t want it to look like you are sitting back and not taking your job seriously. After all, you were hired to make a great company even better. In addition, if your company isn’t doing so well, you will have even more work cut out for you as you need to state what the future plans are. Taking the time to restate the new direction of the company will excite your employees and let everyone know that you have great plans for the future.
Establish New Initiatives That May be Betterr
As mentioned, most employees don’t like change. That is, unless the change makes their lives easier. For the new CEOs that notice that there are inefficiencies throughout the workplace, this is their chance to make initiatives that are going to be better for everyone involved. Not only will you help the company run more smoothly, but you’ll also get some people on your side if you can make their jobs easier.
Address Customersr
The customers shouldn’t be forgotten in this entire process either. After all, it doesn’t matter how great things are running on the inside if you aren’t able to get the customers that you need on the outside. Just like employees and business partners, employees want to feel a bit comforted when it comes to trusting in a company that they are giving their business to. But holding a press conference to introduce yourself, and stating the direction or initiative of the company, you can put a new face on the company that your customers will be sure to appreciate.
