Are you sick of that afte
oon slump? Do you just want to crawl under your desk for a 2:00 p.m. nap? If this sounds like you, then read along!

Although afte
oon fatigue is common, it’s not something you have to live with. It’s in our power to make little lifestyle changes that will improve that sleepy feeling and power us on through the evening hours.

1. Snack Right: Fuel up on some protein and complex carbohydrate-rich snacks to boost your energy. Some ideas include trail mix (try some nuts, dried fruit, and whole grain cereal), a piece of fruit, or a small smoothie. Snacking more frequently will also help energy and blood sugar levels, so keep some healthy snacks at close reach. At lunch, be sure to avoid heavily processed carbs, instead build your lunch on a foundation of vegetables, add some whole grains, lean protein (chicken or fish, beans, lentils, nuts, or seeds), and fruit to finish it off.

2. Walk Through It: If you can, go outside for a short walk. This not only breaks up your day, but circulates blood and breathes new life into your body. Once your body is moving, it won’t want to stop, so begin the process with a healthy, brisk-paced walk. If you are unable to walk outside, take a few trips around the office. A change of scenery is always energizing!

3. Say “No” to Sugar: Although that “sugar high” may feel great at first, you are certain to come crashing down an hour later! Sugary foods cause big spikes in our blood sugar, and more insulin is needed to bring those levels down. This process makes your body work harder, and even worsens the slump. Even though snacking is important, keep those snacks free of added sugars.

4. Mix It Up: Have you been working on the same task for the past 2 hours? If so, it may be time for a change of pace. Find something to organize, write up your weekly calendar, clean off your desk, or make some phone calls. The shift in monotony may help you wake up, and even make you more productive as the day wears on.

5. Just Breathe: Take a few minutes for some deep, relaxing breaths. Breathing properly can be instantly energizing, and it’s a simple process too. Proper breathing can also releasing toxins and stress from our system. Also, be sure to do a few stretches to keep the blood flowing and your body limber. What’s proper breathing? Breathe deeply and slowly for 5 minutes. It’s a reset for your body.

Don’t let an afte
oon slump ruin your workday. Utilize some of these tips to live, eat, and work smarter and healthier. It just takes a few minutes and a little bit of planning for you to have even, abundant energy everyday!

About the Author

Not long ago, I was a corporate vice president and lawyer, working 60+ hours a week, chasing deadlines and deals. I was fueling my life from the vending machine and was on a first name basis with the barista. I knew something big was missing but I didn't know what else to do other than be a lawyer. I was too scared to quit my stressful-but-secure job and "find" myself; I had bills to pay. I was unhappy, unfulfilled, but resigned myself to a "someday I'll feel fulfilled" life.

Then later that year I received an unexpected holiday call . . . Merry Christmas, you have multiple sclerosis.

At that moment, 2 days before Christmas, I knew everything in my life had to change.

I made a commitment to immerse myself in absolutely everything that had to do with getting more energy, health and vibrancy. I read every book and took every course on nutrition, self-actualization and stress management that I could. In short order, I became an expert on how to get more energy, more happiness and live a fulfilled life. But, I didn't just want to gather "shelf" help and build my library. I wanted to go beyond the books and take action!

I had compiled heaps of scientific and practical information when I had an epiphany... in a flash, I knew I had to share this knowledge and liberate other sugar addicted, stressed out, unfulfilled, women with dis-ease.

I have since committed the rest of my life to helping working women avoid the terrible "wake up call" I got and instead, teaching them to enjoy life NOW and escape the prison of stress, sugar blues and dis-ease. My passion is to empower my clients can step into their confident, healthy, peaceful selves through my workshops, online programs, private coaching and VIP strategy and implementation days.

Now, I work with many private clients, I speak in front of countless groups, and offer programs like The From Fatigued To Fabulous System™; a series of 6 important energy-building steps every woman needs to apply to get more energy, more time and be more fulfilled. Parsley is the Rodney Dangerfield of herbs; it gets no respect. Probably not even from Rodney Dangerfield. We’re talking NO respect. Once upon a time, most restaurants used parsley as a perky, colorful accompaniment on your plate, whatever you ordered. Most eaters ignored it, though, pretty much ending the parsley era. We need to reconsider our attitude here. Parsley is a nutritional powerhouse. And, better yet, a little dab’ll do ya. In fact, it would be hard to munch through a dollar’s worth in a week.
