When it comes to sales, in order to really get the success you are looking for, you need to do more than just the old fashioned fast-sell. You need to create a sense of trust, which is not always the easiest thing to do, especially when people have so much access to the information they are looking for these days. It is important that if you want to grow your customer base that you learn about consultative selling, which is an excellent way to gain the trust you need. Here are five tips to using consultative selling to improve your sales conversations, and expand your customer base: Provide Quality Service To Your Customers: No matter how great your product is, if you are not providing an excellent level of customer service, you are not going to have a huge customer base. You need to be able to really take care of your customers. Listen to them. Discover what their needs are, and work hard to meet these needs. If your customers have problems, do what you can to solve their problems. When you are providing excellent customer service, you will build a reputation of being someone that people want to do business with. Ask Questions: You will never know what your customers need unless you come right out and ask them. And you need to know what questions to ask them. Start out with a casual conversation, carefully leading your customers to talk about their problems or needs. Then, work on ways that you can help them with your products or services. When you do this right, you will be showing that you care about them, and you are not coming right out and trying to sell them something, which can be a turn-off for many people. Don't Kill the Sale: If you do not have what your customers are looking for, don't try to convince them that what you do have will work for them. This will just make you seem like you are pushing for sales, which is going to turn potential customers away. You will be more successful if you actually turn your customers to one of your competitors than if you try to sell them something they don't really need, and, you will have done a lot to earn their trust. Follow-Up Is Very Important: Once you make a sale, it is important that you don't leave it at that. Follow up with your customers. Find out how they like your product or service, and if there is anything you can do to make it even better. This is just one more way to get people to trust you, because you are showing an interest in them. Service After Sales Is Vital: This goes along with follow-up. You need to be there for your customers long after the sale is made. For example, if your customers call you with questions or problems regarding what they have purchased from you, you must be able to answer their questions or take care of their problems. Again, this is just one more thing that is going to establish a sense of trust, and make people want to continue doing business with you.
