5 Ways To Live a More Meaningful Life

We all want to matter.

We spend our lives seeking individuals whom make our insides dance. And we hope to make others dance as well – and together, we dream that we will be rewarded with the opportunity to choreograph a symphony of the senses – ecstasy included.

I believe I’ve been the best dance partner I can be in most of my relationships. I think I’m encouraging, guided by the pull of a good time, and always down to shake things up.

But I have to admit something else: I have been terribly stubborn, childish, and selfish – often. I have reacted harshly at times and my bull-headed (hey, I’m a Taurus!) ways have hurt others.

Like all of us, I’m not that innocent (yes, I did just reference a Britney Spears song).

But what I have learned over many years down the guilty path is that we always choose what comes next.

We control the ship – and similar to what I have spoken about on Elephant journal, when we take a step back to examine our lives and take a break from the hamster wheel that spins only if we allow it to, we are guided to the right destination.

What is the right destination?

It appears ahead of us when we implement these five guiding forces:

1. Asking Ourselves Questions

When we open up to the ability to ask for guidance – whether internal or from a higher power – we make room for miracles.

2. Taking Responsibility

It’s not cool when we think ‘it’s just not my fault’. It’s not cool, or true. We always play a part.

3. Being Open To Change

It’s the name of the game! We can’t hit it out of the ballpark if we are always treating life like it’s a little league bat practice.

4. Vulnerability

Creator and CEO of Whole Foods, John Mackey, said it well; “I don’t believe you can be a good leader without showing a little vulnerability.”

5. Being Guided By Love – Not Fear

Our fears are false beliefs that we long ago bought into because they were what was being sold to us. But it’s time to shop in a new store – the store of reality.

The store of reality tells us that love is the only truth. It is our guiding point – our northern most star on the compass of life. When we allow it to work through us, we allow it to work for us.

Our life’s dance is choreographed in major ways by these five life lessons, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have the space to put all of our flexibility to good use.

Still wondering what the right destination is? One where we are all together on that dance floor, shaking it to a new rhythm – a universal rhythm.

Let’s shake and break the mold,
