Handwriting analysis is the scientific investigation ofnhandwriting to determine personality characteristics.

Although handwriting analysis is gaining in popularity, nmany misconceptions exist about this complex form ofnpersonality analysis.

Below we address six common conce
s aboutnhandwriting analysis:

Concern:
“If behavioral scientists had found it to be a validntool, then they would have done so by now and it wouldnbe commonly used.”

Answer:
Human behavioral studies involving handwritingnanalysis exist and it has been found to be a validntool. More than 200 scientific papers have beennpublished in non-graphological peer-reviewednpublications in the last 58 years:

America.

Concern:
“As a candidate for a job, I want to be consideredndue to my experience and talent, not the resultsnof some examination of my signature.”

Answer:
Your signature (and how it relates to the rest ofnyour script) is only part of what is analyzed. Atnleast a half page handwriting sample is best tonproperly analyze handwriting.

We and other respected professionals advisenemployers to hire based on a person’s experience, ntalent, and the results of personality testingnmethods, which indicate whether someone has thenmindset for a particular job. We recommend thenuse of a range of evaluations (e.g., graphologynin conjunction with other psychological testingnmethods), in addition to the interview tondetermine a person’s fit for the demands of anynparticular job.

As we say on our handwriting sample forms,
“Decisions will not be made based only on thenresults of the graphological analysis, but innconjunction with the interview process,ndecision-maker observations, and othe
information.”

Concern:
“What if 10 different handwriting analystsninterpret a person’s script 10 different ways?
Isn’t there a problem with interpretation?”

Answer:
We recommend employers hire well-trainedngraphologists, such as those who have earnedncertification from a respected handwritingnanalysis school. In doing so, the problem ofnvarying interpretations is eliminated.

Concern:
“How does a person’s handwriting tell you ‘thisnperson can or can’t do the job?’ This does notnseem like a reasonable tool to help make hiringndecisions.”

Answer:
First, through the complex coordination of nphysical body, the nervous system, and mindnfunction, you express yourself in your writingnlike no one else. Handwriting is called annexpression of your true self because it has beennshown to directly link to subconscious character, nthe real personality behind the public persona.
It’s really mind-writing and it’s as unique asnyour fingerprints. Even twins have differentnfingerprints and they also have differentnhandwriting, sometimes drastically different, nif you delve into the hundreds of indicatorsnused for a comprehensive analysis.

Handwriting analysis doesn’t directly predictnthe success of a job applicant. However, it doesnprovide information about whether or not thenapplicant is a match for the job based on thenjob description. Motivations (e.g., socialninvolvement, recognition, m.oney, etc.), intellect, nwork habits, communication skills, and emotionalnfoundation are some common areas ofnassessment.

There are many personality traits that aren’tneasy to measure by talking to an applicant, nreviewing their resume, and having them takenstandard personality evaluations. Handwritingnanalysis is so valuable because it assessesnsubconscious character, the actual personality, naside from the one presented or witnessed whennan individual is at their best. It goes beyondnevaluating an applicant just for the job tasks.

Handwriting analysis is particularly useful inndetermining specific personality traits needednfor a job, such as consistency, flexibility, nsincerity, emotional maturity, ability to makendistinctions, decision-making ability, analyticalnability, problem solving ability, ability toncope with stress, objectivity, and much more.

Concern:
“What if handwriting analysis exposes anquestionable personality dynamic that younwouldn’t see demonstrated on the job, that isntotally unrelated to the position? I’d benconce
ed that this is an invasion of mynprivacy.”

Answer:
Established legal precedents exist in relationnto handwriting analysis. One U.S. court rulednthat your script is “behavior in public” and thatnusing it as the foundation of personalitynevaluation can’t be viewed as an invasion ofnprivacy. U.S. vs. Hazelwood School District 534
F 2nd 805 states that graphology is “notnprecluded in hiring if it is related to the job.”

Invasion of privacy hinges on the expectationnof privacy, which vanishes when you fill out anjob application in your handwriting andnacknowledge that the employer will read it. Also, nemployers understand (e.g., through performancenagreements, such as the one we use) that only thenemployer’s decision-makers (i.e., your interviewer, netc.), those supervisory personnel who have an“need to know,” are entitled to see the resultsnof the analysis. The contents of each profile isnkept confidential, as per the client-analystnagreement.

Besides, no ethical handwriting analyst wouldntell your prospective employer about you
possible early-life s.exual abuse, for example, nbecause it’s not directly related to the job. It’snthe responsibility of the graphologist to focusnexclusively on personality traits required fornoptimum job performance, i.e., identifynpersonality strengths and challenges related tonthe job position.

Concern:
“The majority of adults entering the workforcentoday can’t even write. It’s becoming an obsoletenskill due to computers.”

Answer:
Although people aren’t writing as much as theynused to due to computers, we believe almostneveryone can still write, even those who just ngraduated from high school. Even if they usenonly printing and not cursive, their script cannstill be analyzed. It’s very doubtful the abilitynto write will become totally obsolete.

We recommend handwriting analysis as one of thenmost effective forms of personality analysis innexistence.
