Have you ever been in a sticky business situation which you allowed to escalate because you did not know how to deal with it? I have. I have been in situations where I would lie in bed, worrying and worrying, unable to sleep, beating myself up and trying not to be a victim about it… Wishing I had seen and acted on the signs when the going was good… Feeling like an idiot and hoping that no one else will see just how idiotic I have been… So, yes, I know a thing or two about sticky situations, especially in business, as well as, in relationships. You can take courage from the fact that every successful person would have had to deal with this at some point so stay in the game because when it comes down to it, it is all a game. And here is the biggest thing you will have to handle… The fear… It takes over… It cuts out your internal wisdom… You start to look for someone to blame… You start to feel shame for the mistakes you made… And none of this is, in any way, helpful to dealing with the situation. Stop, breathe and think. If you cannot do it alone, reach out to your coach, your mentor, an objective person who will help you see more clearly what needs to be done. Look beyond the fear and listen into the deeper wisdom. Then take action. This cannot be an action rooted in your fear – That will only make things worse. Step into your inner warrior, be the leader you know you are created to be, do not hide from taking action – That is just your fear leading you. The longer you leave this hanging over your head, the worse the problem gets. It is time to look fear straight in the eye, face the areas where you have made mistakes, face the areas where you have let others determine the path for you because you were too weak in that moment to stand your ground… And then take massive, fearless action to deal with the consequences and correct the situation as soon as possible. The fear never helps so do not let it lead. Yes, you made a mistake but now, you can face it and handle it. Make apologies where necessary and do not try to shirk your responsibility – That makes you a victim and victims DO NOT MAKE MONEY! They are subject to the whims of others, they are subject to fate and that cannot be your story. You have to be powerful, even when you have made an error in judgement – All the blame and the shame in the world will not deal with the current situation so be a leader and do whatever it takes to bring resolution to a situation that is eating you up inside. You will notice that even as you make that internal decision to deal with the situation, you start to feel peace within. You remember that you can handle anything that comes your way. OK, so what is the next step? Do that as soon as you can. In the meantime, put the matter down until you have taken the next action. Incessant worrying will not help and it prevents you from taking action in other areas of your life. So, make a decision about the next step… Take the next step as soon as you can, without procrastinating. (procrastination got you in this mess!) Deliberately, put worry to one side. When you have taken the action, notice the result and then make the next decision. Also, determine what you are willing and not willing to do to bring it all to a resolution so that you do not get pressured into agreeing to something because you feel guilty. If you do feel fear when dealing directly with someone, refuse to make a firm decision in that moment. Buy some time to consider the best solution for you and for the other party when you are not feeling afraid. Guilt, worry, fear are useless when seeking to resolve issues. Be a leader and fight for, create the life and the business that you want. I’ll share with you that when I first started in business the image of a leader that I brought with me was an authority figure who has the power to hurt those that are following them. This was because I was so used to being around authority figures who were coming from a place of leading through fear (I came out of the very toxic public school system). I knew I didn’t want that in my business.

Many of my clients share that one of their biggest marketing challenges is actually connecting with enough prospects. They are doing all of this great work in their businesses, but not very many people know about their work; or at least not enough for the flow of business to be moving smoothly and easily. Stop. Start. Stop. Start. Sound familiar? There isn't one perfect way to consistently connect with prospects, but there are many ways that, when used collaboratively, will build you a nice stream of people who are interested in what you do.
