Headaches do more than hurt; they interrupt your life. Extreme migrants can ruin your day and cause you to become so sensitive to light and sound that you can’t do anything but curl up in a dark room and sleep. While you can’t completely prevent headaches, you can use the following tips to lower the amount of time you lose to headaches or migraines: Sleep-but not too much Research has shown that disruptions in sleep patterns can cause migrants or regular headaches. While most people understand that getting only a few hours of sleep (or being woken up every few hours) can cause headaches, many people don't understand that getting too much sleep can also cause headaches. Doctors recommend that you set regular bed times and try to wake up at the same time each morning. If you are having a lot of trouble doing this, contact your doctor for a sleep study. Eat Well Your body isn't equipped to digest a lot of processed foods such as candy or fried food. Dealing with these foods causes your digestive system to work overtime. This causes stress in your body, which can cause headaches. Be sure to get plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Drink Water There is a link between dehydration and headaches. While people have varying amounts of tolerance, eventually everyone will get a migraine or headache when they are dehydrated. Make sure to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. Supplement this with low sugar fruit juice. Wear sunglasses Excessive sunlight can cause you to squint, which can overtax your facial muscles-which can cause a headache. Excessive light can also cause headaches, so make sure to wear sunglasses. Relax Too much stress overtaxes your brain, and harms your overall physical and mental health. These can cause headaches and other problems. Make sure to alleviate your stress through activities such as yoga, exercise and positive thoughts. Try to identify small things that are really not worth stressing over-and avoid your headaches. Make out with someone It may sound odd, but one of the best ways to eliminate headaches is to curl up next to the one you love. Touching and kissing release Oxytocin, which is a natural pain reliever; this can relief your headache quickly. Codeine Codeine is an opiate that is quite effective at relieving pain. While it can be addictive, it is less addictive than other opiates such as morphine and Norco. This means that you can take it more often (every 4-6 hours during a headache). While codeine must be prescribed by your doctor, most are willing to prescribe it in limited amounts in order to reduce your headache symptoms.
