If it is not possible to get an image, then you can start with a rough sketch that will closely resemble the painting. Just sketch on a plain piece of paper in pencil. Then try to duplicate the sketch by painting your acetate sheet with the image.

Worth noting is that the venture requires one to have patience because you have to allow the painting to dry or your work will be smeared. Therefore, it is advisable to work in stages, and if you are painting multiple pieces, they should not be stored on top of each other until they are completely dry.

A Layered Painting Project

For a layered painting project, you will have a top layer and a base layer. The size of the acetate transparent sheet and the paper should be the same. You still need a rough sketch or an original painting to duplicate. The base layer will be a painting on a paper prepared with an acrylic matte medium for the best effect. After painting the base layer, let it dry. Now place the acetate sheet on top of the image and outline the lines only using black ink. The acetate will define the base image in an amazing way.
