Achieving Holiday Happiness
Written by Janie Behr MSW,CLC
The time betwee
Thanksgiving and New Years is a time people get “stressed out”. So I ask you…why? Lets identify the reasons and then we can change them. Everywhere I look I see people stressed out ‘striving to be happy. I also see heart-felt thankfulness…. more than at any other times of the year.
Do you create the image in your mind of the perfect holiday, the perfect dinner, getting your loved ones the perfect gift and creating an atmosphere that only brings you to total exhaustion. If I am stressed out about creating the family holidays with the perfect image of everyone smiling, laughing, eating and things don’t go as well as I had hoped..I am disappointed and let down. What if I choose to “just go with the flow” The same is true for gift giving and receiving. What if you let yourself be you and let your loved ones be their authentic selves and enjoy what comes?
Creating more happiness with less, by letting go of high expectations. We are all perfectly imperfect. What do you need to let go of?
Make a list of what you are tolerating about the holidays.
Review the list and make the decision – to let it go, and choose happiness.
- Imagine things simplified.
- Don’t forget to put yourself on your gift list.
- Get over your old customs and your mindset “that’s the way it has to be”.
- Change your perspective.
- Embrace happiness! Choose to be positive.
I wish you happiness this holiday season!
Enjoy a Stress Free Holiday
