Are you a chronic ‘doer’? Does sitting around ‘relaxing’ give you the jitters or worse – make you feel guilty? Are you terrified that if you let off on the gas even a little, all that you have created will collapse?
This is a phenomeno
I am all too familiar with and one I am passionate about combating in myself and others. Chronic doing is a cycle that can be very hard to break free from, but the good news is that being of aware of it is the first step toward freedom.
That is why I have created a little quiz for you to find out where you fall on the ‘chronic doing’ continuum. You’ll also learn the next steps to take when you are ready to break out of this cycle – without sacrificing but rather ensuring – your success.
Are you a Chronic Doer? Let’s find out.
Mark the following statements True or False:
1. If given a whole day off with nothing to do, you would have no idea how to spend it
2. Checking your e-mail is one of the first things you do after waking up (and when you get up to use the bathroom at night)
3. Pausing to breathe deeply to calm and center yourself isn’t an option– it will take too much time and take you away from what you’re in the middle of doing
4. Your thoughts jump between criticism of yourself to criticism of others
5. You’ve ignored your health and energy long enough to believe that how you feel after 6 hours of sleep is normal
6. You avoid planning sessions because you don’t want to feel even more overwhelmed with all you have to do
7. You tend to keep a huge, time consuming projects out in the open (picture organizing, tons of reading, table refinishing, etc.) so you don’t forget you’ve got a lot more to do
8. You feel exhausted but usually don’t sleep well
9. You often feel frustrated, restless, irritable and cranky
10. You’re convinced that doing more is the answer to getting everything you need to do accomplished

Alright! Chronic Doing is definitely not a cycle you are stuck in. You understand the natural ebbs and flows that life presents and enjoy the ride without needing to mess with the natural order of things. You have found a balance between ‘doing’ and ‘being’ that feels comfortable and works for you.
