I’m watching ‘American Idol’ again and am often asked WHY in astonishment. The show remains a great metaphor for how to create your life and actively participate in it – according to your dream.
Stephen Covey says to begin with the end in mind. All the kids dream of being the ‘next American Idol’ – that is their end – but they have to start somewhere. And they all line up for auditions amidst the thousands of others.
What is your dream?
I see so many clients who want either:
- A relationship
- More money
- Successful business
- A purpose and meaning
But aren’t really willing to do what it takes. It’s either too hard, too scary or too risky and that’s exactly why they remain stuck.
All it takes is the next step forward. The first, next step is the most important one at whatever stage you’re at. It’s vital to trust that the ground will appear beneath your feet when you take this step. All the American Idol contestants line up amongst thousands of others in their effort to take their first scary step! But if that first step isn’t taken, then the end doesn’t materialise either.
How about you? Are you willing to:
- Take the plunge?
- Face your fear?
- Kiss some frogs along the way towards your dream relationship?
- Fail often, if necessary?
- Own you feelings that arise?
- Reflect on your journey?
- Change your perspective on life?
- Do what it takes?
If not, how is the current status quo of your life serving you? It is somehow, because if you haven’t been brave enough to make the change yet – there’s a reason why you’re choosing to remain where you are. Only once you let that go can you step forward to stand on the stage in the spotlight of your own life.
Do what it takes to be happy. For you.

BeSimply…Autumn Skye Morrison
“She” arrived at a small boutique in the lower Gibson’s, located on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia. It was a cool and crisp evening and the sun was beginning to set. The store, Costal Creativity, welcomed “She” and “He” in and presented itself as a playful stage for the creations of local artists. As “She” entered, a large tree like structure filled with these expressive hats captured her attention. The variety of textures and colors created a canopy of fanciful head adornments. “She” intently studied each hat, wondering which one would come home with her someday.r
