Ginny, a single mother of four children suddenly found herself taking a good hard look at herself in the mirror one evening. She had worked for many years within the corporate world and was now faced with the possibility of another transition. Yet for the first time since she could remember, there was no smile, no joy radiating from her face in the mirror that night. Her smiles had become more difficult to come by and were far from the genuineness that they once shined. Ginny was afraid. She was afraid of being disappointed again, afraid of not living up to her potential, and afraid of the fear itself.

Having recently turned fifty-three Ginny was faced with the harsh reality of limited savings, a family to provide for, no severance package, and alte
ative career paths that were far from appealing. She was no stranger to change, but this time it was different. Ginny found herself at a check point not knowing if she could believe in the direction ahead. After assessing her new career possibilities, Ginny came to the realization that she needed help. There was an underlying layer of resentment that pervaded her thoughts from seeing her hidden potential. It was time to take a crucial step in the right direction. Her clouded vision was impacting her decision making process and her ability to move forward.

Ginny realized that she needed to be honest with herself and her trusted professional advisors. She needed clear, fresh insight into her situation and her trusted advisors were just the people to help her remove her emotions from the decision making process. Although she really wanted a new beginning, Ginny had to accept and claim ownership to what was holding her back from taking the actions necessary to move ahead. Letting go of the resentment that she had carried far too long. It was time to practice smart trust in herself and her advisors. The end result was a new role as District Manager for a successful financial services company.

Ginny’s strength and determination allowed her to pursue the opportunities that delivered personal and professional enrichment. Her wise choices and courageous actions also earned her the respect of a great team. She was determined to live her life no longer hindered by the fear of what might be, but rather empowered by what could be; of attaining the impossible for herself and creating her very own dream team. With the emotional support and encouragement of other trusted professionals, she worked fearlessly in developing a team of high performers. Together they were able to accomplish goals and dreams; far beyond the realm of what was thought possible. Through facing her innermost fears and removing all obstacles, Ginny has been able to help thousands of families and other leaders attain a level of financial independence and a quality of life that was once thought impossible. As a result of Ginny’s pioneering efforts and sheer determination, these leaders and their families have attained a quality of life that provides the rewarding and cherished time with their families and loved ones.

I've come to realize that the situations that challenge me the most as a leader and business owner are the ones that bring up a lot of emotions for me. Immediately my internal dialogue kicks in. In the moment it seems like my internal dialogue is simply reporting the truth about my situation or the person I'm upset with. And before I'm aware of it I get caught up in my inner commentary and self-made internal reality and forget that it's simply an internal conversation that I've created about my situation.

As I travel through my life, I have often noticed that dogs have some interesting effects on people. In the presence of a dog, even the gruffest, most hardened human beings can become soft and caring. I also notice that in the past few decades, more and more people are adopting dogs than ever before. In fact, I believe it safe to say that human beings harbour much more generalized affection for the entire canine species than they do for the human race. As a lifelong dog lover, my observations caused me to ask myself some very important questions about our puppy friends...
