Aromatherapy has been used across many cultures since ancient times. Ancient Egyptians used specific aromatherapy oils as they were mummifying a body. On the heads of guests they also placed scented wax cones that would melt progressively releasing the fragrances of the essential oils. In modern-day France, famous for its high quality lavender oils, essential oils can be used internally instead of medicine by trained aromatherapists. Most countries restrict aromatherapy oils to exte
al applications.

Aromatherapy uses the scents and chemical properties of essential oils to affect our emotions and moods as well as healing on a physical level. These are commonly used in oil burners (6 drops), massage oils (1 drop essential oil : 2 mls carrier oil), several drops in a bath or on a tissue. Use whichever oils you are drawn to or try any of the following. 2 or 3 oils may be blended together: • Calming and Balancing
lavender, marjoram, geranium, chamomile or mandarin
• Overthinking and Worry Relief
sandalwood, frankincense, geranium, clary sage or vetiver
• Concentration and Memory Improvement
rosemary, peppermint, basil, pine or lemon
• Invigorating and Uplifting
orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, peppermint
• Sensual and Erotic
ylang ylang, jasmine, rose, patchouli
• Tension and Frustration Relief
bergamot, orange, neroli
• Overburdened and Humourless Relief
lemon and jasmine together

Try luxuriating in a warm bath with your favourite aromatherapy essential oils for a special treat. Remember that so-called aromatherapy oils marked ‘fragrance oil’ are synthetic and do not have any of the healing properties of pure essential oils. You get what you pay for.

Despite its high price tag, pure rose oil is probably the best oil for opening the heart to love and joy. Jasmine and neroli oils also work well and are a more affordable price.

Tea-tree oil is a must have for first aid as an antiseptic, for mouth ulcers or for fungal complaints, including thrush. Remember to dilute it heavily in water first. Peppermint oil can neutralize even the strongest odours. Neat lavender oil takes the itchiness out of insect bites, provided the skin is not broken. Bergamot is extremely effective for getting rid of cold sores.

Wherever possible use essential oils like lavender, lemon, orange and peppermint to make your own cleaning agents. Aromatherapy oils can also be added to your own shampoo and cosmetic bases as well as homemade soaps. These reduce the number of toxic synthetic fragrances in your environment, lessening the burden on your immune system and assisting you in holding a higher vibration.

Recently, my wife and I went on vacation, and I had to explain to my nine year-old son why it was just the two of us going. I explained that mom and I needed time for just the two of us, just like he and I spend father and son time.

How many times do you just wolf-down your meal in a mad rush to finish before getting back to work? How many times are you eating out of obligation to just eat? How many times do you see undigested food in your stool? Gross, I know! Do you have food allergies? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questons it is likely you need to retrain yourself in how to eat on purpose. 1. Maintain regular and consistent mealtimes. It is better to eat five smaller meals than three large meals.

Children are to a degree necessarily imbalanced. They are in a constant state of change. Children seek to discover the limits of their control over their environment. What has become known as childhood infectious illnesses are the training ground of achieving and maintaining balance in their life as an adult. The ability to react appropriately to stimuli is a learning process. If a lion comes up and bites you, you should bleed! If a child is challenged by microbes their body should react appropriately by producing a fever and the lymph nodes should be activated.

I was just a young doctor when I first toured the Heidelberg Castle in Germany. As is the case in many castles in Europe the narrow passage was dank and poorly lit. What light there was cast eerie shadows on the carefully placed stones that made up the walls leading to the alchemy lab. A sign on the wall read “No Photographs May Be Taken of the Alchemy Lab!” It struck me as odd at the time, that one could take pictures of any other room in the monstrously large Heidelberg Castle, just not this one.
