Finding The Job You Love
Written by Agustina Thorgilsson
The fear of "losing it all" often blinds us to what we really have and our riches.
Many people hang onto jobs they are miserable with and hang onto situations that are "secure" instead of letting go and go for new pastures green where they find way to enjoy and achieve life success.
This can be dangerous as we get lulled into inactivity and do nothing and lose sight of what we really have.
Many of the 600 unemployed people that I trained to reenter the labor market in Iceland had set their minds on what they wanted and could do in the work field.
Their mindset had been formed by what the market was asking for and didn't always realize that they were being fobbed off when it was suggested to them that they need more education (just to later hear that they were too much educated for the job).
Following are few simple tips on uncovering the riches you possess.
- Strengths
- Weaknesses
- Your surprises
List up your strengths both at work and leisure. Also list up you interests and what you enjoy doing.
List up your weaknesses both the ones you feel you have but also those others say you have. Look at those as sometimes weakness in one situation can be strength in another. Like perfectionism with numbers can be painstaking in front line service but strength in accounting. Turn each upside down and see if you can find the strength in it.
What is it that you have that you did not count and that could even surprise you? Often people do not think their artistic talent is anything worth neither mentioning nor their looks. Sometimes people are totally unaware of their greatest assets and therefore do nothing about them. Look at Joyce Meyer who has enormous voice to get her message across or the flamenco dancer Joaquín Cortés who uses his lithe body to interpret the music with elegance and feeling. They found a way to enjoy and achieve life success.
Now compare to and fit into your CV the results from the list above and you will have a new list to work your CV from and realize that there are areas you haven't really tried out before in your search for job.
The same applies if you are not happy where you are and feel the need to move on.
Remember: You are as rich as you feel at the moment when you have nothing.
