"I'm a vegetarian," a friend emailed me rather smugly, I thought. "So this problem about cloned beef doesn't affect me." That was the gist of it, anyway. I'm not going to look up her email because I spent about six hours yesterday, emailing loads of people about this.

Actually, cloned beef does affect you. If you're a vegetarian, and not a vegan, it matters that the milk and cheese and yogurt you eat may soon come from machines. Energetically, that's the equivalent of putting a black hole into your body. Do you really want to be part of a science experiment funded by greed?

But what if you're a vegan? Hey, maybe you're a breatharian, someone who can sustain life through advanced yogic practices. Are you too refined to care about the rest of humanity?

Aha, I thought not. Because if your diet has been chosen for spiritual reasons, how can you stay silent on this issue?

Elizabeth Edwards, who died December 7, did so many things right. For example, she managed the presidential campaign for her husband, John Edwards -- at least until he self-destructed as a politician. Creating his briefing books and directing his campaign, sometimes Elizabeth tried to push her husband farther toward the left, as with her support of same-sex marriage. Excellent!
