BBQ Bombshells

Warm weather brings flowers, sunshine and BBQs that create happy memories. These events can also quickly derail healthy eating habits! Here are five easy tips to keep you on track amidst the eating frenzy that can tempt even the most disciplined eater:

1) Drink lots of water: the easiest way to avoid stuffing your face is to remain hydrated. Often times we think we are hungry when it’s really thirst we’re looking for. Keeping a drink in hand will not only keep you busy, but also help you to glow from the inside out!

2) Don’t wait for the main course: Load up on the healthy snacks when they are offered rather than waiting for the main course that is often fat-filled and energy zapping. Bypass the more calorie-loaded snack foods and take advantage of the fruit and vegetable trays that often go untouched. Not only will the fiber content of these foods fill you up faster, but they will also keep you satisfied for longer. Be wary of the dips that are offered and use them sparingly!

3) Don’t get carried away: this won’t be the last bbq you ever go to, so pace yourself. It’s important to treat yourself, but I assure you it’s not the last time you’ll see a brownie, so don’t indulge at every opportunity.

4) Enlist a buddy: When we surround ourselves with people of like minds and attitudes towards eating, it’s easier to stick to our diet choices. Make a friend with the nearest person munching on broccoli; they will support you merely by osmosis.

5) Don’t forget to have fun! Food is meant to be enjoyed—and what better way than at a party with your friends or family? Don’t be afraid to indulge in a dessert once in a while. The key is to take the time to enjoy the indulgence and limit yourself to what you really want rather than just gulping down what’s available. Moderation is a great rule of thumb!
