Transforming a conventional backyard from overgrown to outstanding can be done on a low budget with clever design and budgeting ideas. It is important to keep in mind that the area's climate will play a role in how the backyard is planned; a wet climate will make maintaining wood that isn’t weathered properly a nuisance, as well as flowers that need lots of sunlight impractical. With this in mind, there are some easy ways to renovate a backyard of any shape and size.rnRubber Mulch Playground Flooringrn For a kid-friendly playground, consider a patch of rubber mulch flooring. Rubber playground flooring is made from recycled rubber and can be laid in one corner of your backyard, effectively cordoning off a ‘kids’ area. The rubber’s extra shock absorbency helps prevent injuries, and it comes in many colors for an aesthetic appeal. Lastly, rubber mulch needs virtually no maintenance even in wet climates, so it pays itself off rather quickly.rnSpice Up Concrete Floorsrn Use garage floor paint to give tired concrete floors a bold, fresh update. With a few simple steps a drab concrete floor can be brightened. Clear dust and debris off the floor, and sponge it clean. Then measure the floor in order to decide on the dimensions of the design. Paint two coats of base-colored paint, and allow it to dry. Choose complementing colors to paint stripes on the floor, using two coats of paint for each stripe. Be bold, you can go with a grey base and orange stripes, or any other colors that suit your fancy!rnMeandering Gardenrn When planning a backyard garden, some design techniques can transform it from a row of flowers to a meandering paradise. Use stepping stones to form a path that is bordered by shrubs or small flowers. Stepping stones can be obtained in the form of old or extra bricks that builders have left over from projects. Consider a small seating area set back into the yard; a roundabout path to the seating area will give the illusion of a larger yard. A small fountain or bird feeder is a beautiful finishing touch. Make sure that your yard has enough room for an unobtrusive place to store gardening tools.rnOutdoor Swing or Hammockrn There’s nothing like a gently swaying swing or hammock to set the tone of perfect relaxation. Hang your swing in a shady area and accentuate with soft cushions and throws that are weather-proofed. You can even hang a DIY daybed using a wooden board that is covered by a cushion and sheet, and accentuated with pillows. If you don’t like the look of chain, make sure that the nylon or rope that you are using is strong enough to hold the daybed. There are many ways to spruce up a backyard, making it an integral part of your home. Start from the ground up, using rubber mulch and other flooring materials, and working with an exact plan. However, don’t be scared to deviate from the plan if inspiration strikes, and have fun while working!
