We can all be leaders in business and in the world of work. I believe everyone has the potential to create a unique product or service that people want and most importantly of all will pay for. However, to achieve this initially requires some self-study and self-analysis.
Start searching for a gap in the market because it most certainly does exist, or think of what you are looking for as a consumer and customer. Listen out for ideas from people closest to you also, your family, friends and work colleagues.
During this process, you may come across friends, members of your family, or even colleagues trying to put you off from your ideas. Do listen and take their conce
s on board, but do not let them discourage you. After all they may have their agendas such as fear of change, feelings of envy at your creativity or put simply they may not have confidence or enough belief in you and your abilities. In this case, it is better to just shut them off from your mind for now by focusing on what you want to achieve.
Remember letting the doubts and fears of others invade your thoughts are not an option as it will lead only to hesitation and self-doubt on your part and you do not need that.
You have the potential to think as a leader; start by taking a piece of paper and draw 3 columns with 3 headings as below. Down the first column list your education and qualifications, then down the second column list the skills that you have developed through work and further study such as evening classes or home study courses. Now analyse them closely.
What do you see? Now ask yourself the following question, do I have all the necessary education, qualifications and skills required to realize my product or service or do I need to consider taking additional courses in order to develop new skills or to improve existing skills? Now list these in the third column.
If there are financial hurdles towards your obtaining additional qualifications, then start saving towards that qualification now, bit by bit. See what outgoings you need to reduce, in other words what you are prepared to sacrifice such as going to pub, smoking, eating out, buying what you do not necessarily need, in order to improve yourself.
There are other sources you can consider if you are under low income such as:
Library - for books, magazines and other reading materials on the subject you are aiming to develop or create. I highly recommend you taking a note pad and a pen to make notes when you go to the library. You can also borrow some of the reference books at no cost to you.
World Wide Web – probably the best source for up-to-date free information, though you do need to focus your searches and research and be careful about subscribing to sites that require payment.
Charities & Government Bodies - often offer a number of free courses, from business start-up to personal development. This is not only a great source of networking as you will meet other like-minded people but you can also exchange information and ideas.
Get into the habit to think only positively about your new venture, and have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and the legacy you want to create.
