In 2017 we saw the rise of Ski Boosters treatment and bio-stimulating dermal fillers such as Ellanse. And now with weeks into 2018, we saw some shift in beauty trends. While we saw some medical treatments surge in popularity in the beginning of 2018, there were also some treatments that visibly became less popular over the last few months. We speak to one of the most sought-after aesthetic doctors in Singapore, Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, to tell us more about what he believes to be the next big trends for 2018 and what makes them so special. 1. Rejuran Skin Healer / PDRN Skin Therapy Commonly referred to as Rejuran Healer, PDRN Therapy, Miracle Healer Injection, the content of Rejuran Healer is made of biological molecules called polynucleotides. They are made of nucleotides bonded together. Some people many find the term ‘nucleotides’ familiar, because they are the basic units that form the DNA. The DNA extract in Rejuran or PDRN Therapy is obtained from a fish source, typically salmon. Salmon DNA has been used by doctors to treat wounds and promote skin healing for several years. In recent times, scientists have made slight changes to the formula for the use on the face for anti-aging purposes. The doctor uses a micro-needle to administer small doses of Rejuran Healer under the skin to promote skin renewal and improve overall skin texture. People who have undergone this treatment have raved about the remarkable results including smaller pores, less visible fine lines and wrinkles and improved acne scars. 2. Dual Yellow Laser Treatment Unlike other conventional laser treatments, Dual Yellow Laser is specially designed to penetrate deep into the skin without breaking the skin surface. Relying on copper bromide based laser technology, Dual Yellow Laser offers multi-wavelength capability for different types of skin conditions. It is the gold standard for treating several skin abnormalities such as stubborn acne, bulky or vascular lesions, recurring melasma, and other severe pigmentation. Besides treating skin conditions, Dual Yellow Laser is also effective for general skin rejuvenation to reduce appearance of fine lines and for immediate skin brightening. Another unique function of Dual Yellow Laser is its capability to treat dark eye circles by breaking down the dark pigments under the eyes. Being able to deliver remarkable results without any downtime, Dual Yellow Laser has naturally taken center stage of anti-aging treatment since the beginning of 2018. 3. Dysport Facelift Treatment Dysport Facelift Treatment creates a natural, yet visible lift with almost no downtime for the patient. Using botulinum toxin to subtly lift saggy skin is a new concept devised by doctors to lift and tighten the skin non-surgically. Botulinum toxin is often used by doctors to relax overactive muscles for treating various conditions. In this case, a non-surgical facelift can be achieved by injecting Dysport into the superficial layers of the skin instead of the muscles. The treatment causes enlarged pores to constrict. After the treatment, the skin becomes firmer, pulling excess skin upwards to produce a subtle lift to the face. The effects continue to improve over the next few days as Dysport dissipates into the deeper muscles to help them relax and reduce wrinkles. At the same time, the treatment also helps to stimulate collagen production so that the skin on the face remains elastic and firm. “Just a waste of my time,” I remember thinking while waiting my turn for a mammogram in Dr. Ira Berger’s office. I had brought my briefcase and had work spread on my lap, but spending time driving the 97-mile round trip from my home office to the radiologist’s was an unproductive part of my day. It was 1992 and I had been getting annual mammograms for more than 10 years – ever since I turned 45. But I felt I had better things to do with my time, especially since no one in my family had ever had breast cancer, or cancer of any kind.

Ah, November. It’s the month when winter gets serious, delighting skiers and little kids. It’s the time to put the thick, groovy, grab-the-road tires on my car and it’s when I celebrate my magical day! Nov. 18th is my birthday. That day I’ll get to blow out some candles and grin from ear to ear while my family sings to me. Then I’ll read aloud their hilarious birthday cards while they laugh so hard they have to hold their tummies, and happy tears squeeze from the corners of their eyes. Yes, November 18 is the magical day I was bo 74 years ago.
