The one and only one objective of resume is not to get a job, but to get you into the interview room. Resume is written to promote yourself, your skill that fulfill and impress your potential employer to call you for an interview. The job market is very similar to the sales environment, which in job market you are the product, and your potential employer will be the buyer with your resume to be the salesman that spoke for you. The most challenging part to get an interview is to "stand up" from the crowd and attract the interest of your potential employer to offer you an interview. The challenging part in writing resume is you have only one chance to make a very good first impression to get a job interview.

Below are a few simple but important tips to take note in writing resume, to make sure that you can create a fantastic first impression to please your potential employer.

1) Resume Format: Make sure that you make use of one of the professional resume format when you are writing a job application resume. There are 2 most accepted formats in writing resume, which are the functional (great for people who have had steady growth within their chosen profession) and chronological (suit most for those who have changed jobs frequently, those who have been unemployed for a long period of time, or those who are looking to change directions in their career) format. Please do make sure that your resume is simple and straight, which you can list out all your strength to attract their attention.

2) Proper grammar and punctuation: Please do make sure that your resume is in proper punctuations and order. Avoid all grammatical mistakes as that makes you very unprofessional and your potential employer might think that you have poor command in English. There are a lot of spell and grammar check tools available in the internet, or you can seek help from your friends and relative to read through your resume before applying for jobs. By this way, you can have your resume thoroughly check through, as two heads are always better than one.

3) Be logical and statistic: Try to highlight your skills and contribution towards your previous organization statistically. Use percentage and numbers to show your contribution, for example "increase sale by 50%, increase profit by 50%, decrease turnover ratio by 30%" etc. Show your potential employer how good and competitive you are comparing to other applicants. This will definitely leave a very good impression to your employer.

4) Keep resume presentable: Please keep in mind that your resume is the only way for you to get into a job interview, so please do not use rough paper to print it out. If possible, please use a laser printer for your resume, as it will be more readable.
