Bring Simple Spirituality To Your Work In Subtle Ways

How much time do you spend at the office? Do you spend more time there than you spend at home? Challenges such as an over demanding boss, self serving colleagues,long hours and high levels of stress are more the norm in business than ever before.
How can you cope with these difficult circumstances and still find the job meaningful and rewarding? One way is to bring a spiritual perspective along with you to the office every day. There are many simple spiritual laws that can help you to manage with the challenges of your working life.
What is spirituality in business? According to Corinne Mclaughlin in her 2004 article entitled, Spirituality and Ethics in Business, there is a wide range of ideas of how spirituality can be used in a business setting. Some say it is simply embodying their personal values of honesty, integrity and good quality of work. Others would say it is treating their co-workers and employees in a responsible and caring way. For others it is participating in spiritual study groups or using prayer, meditation or intuitive guidance at work. And for some, it is making their business socially responsible in how it impacts the environment, serves the community or helps create a better world.
Growing numbers of people want their spirituality to be more than just faith and belief. They want it to be practical and applied. They want to bring their whole selves to work – body, mind and soul and be in an environment that allows all three areas of the individual to be developed and fulfilled.
Here are a few simple suggestions on how to bring more spirituality to your work experience:
1.When you arrive at work, take 10 minutes to meditate at your desk with your eyes closed to prepare for your day. Think about what you want to accomplish in this day and how you might serve others while doing it.
2.If someone does something against you, resist your urge to attack and silently forgive them and let it go. Forgiveness is a powerful tool to help you find peace of mind when others hurt you.
3.Realize that every challenges and hardship teaches us a lesson. If your boss is making your life miserable, ask yourself, “What lesson am I supposed to learn from this?" Trials in our lives offer chance for growth.
4.Our inner self is available at any moment to offer strength and support.We call it our little voice or gut feeling or intuition, but we can have access to those messages of support from a place of wisdom within us. We must make time to listen to them through comtemplation and meditation.
These are just a few of the spiritual laws that can help you cope with difficult situations at work and also apply to your personal life. Understand them, implement them and you will see a different view of the world from across your desk. nn
