Can Eyes See Beyond the World?

Over the last several years I always have wondered about, toyed with and believed in our extrasensory perception in relation to my own personal views versus those individuals close to me as well as people in general. We know and read in the media both science and philosophy continuously grow and expand in the advancement of understanding human life. Today most if not all scientists and philosophers agree on the fact a human’s investigation of the world is limited. With saying this the intention is not to belittle humanity’s capability but to point out humanity is basically like a newbo
who only feels, says, acts and receives that which comes from the world around him: his experiences. In all our scientific investigations, we are limited by our five senses. The result is any inventions created or those built in the future will be no exception and do not escape the limitations of our five senses. They merely widen the boundaries we associate with our senses. But does it truly end there, or is there a very real possibility that science one day will consider extrasensory perception as a legitimate part of the investigation process?
I realize how difficult it is or basically the impossibility that we struggle with being able to imagine or identify what our senses lack. Namely, what other additional sense we need in order to recognize the true reality around us, and is “my” reality going to be the same as “Jane Doe’s” reality? Do those who have not embraced the idea of a sixth sense or believe in its validity feel no lack for this, as we feel no lack of a sixth finger on our hands? That for which we feel no lack can never be something to which we would come to request, right? Therefore, all the investigations of our world are only according to our five senses, and thus we cannot begin to see, feel or understand what is beyond these five senses. These are the limitations of our conceptions. Following along this line of thought, if our imagination is the product of our five senses and the experiences that form them, how is it possible for us to ever imagine any object or creature that does not resemble that which is familiar to us from our five senses?
Most of these questions I am asking stem from watching Sci-Fi and wondering how the creators, set and costume designers develop and create the imagery they do. Think George Lucas, Star Wars and Star Trek.
If I want, for example, someone to draw for me some creature from another planet, in the majority of instances he would draw it according to the elements familiar to him from his world. And if I asked you to describe something imaginary, you would give me without a doubt something which is very similar to your world. And this exemplifies all of our limitations: we all live within a small world, and we are not able to feel (and therefore imagine) anything outside of it.
Since our limitations are absolute, there seems to be no science or philosophy that can help us to understand what is beyond this world. It could be that in the same space in other dimensions exist other creatures, other worlds. We are not able to feel them because we lack the requisite vessels; that is, senses to feel them.
We know humans have five basic senses or ways in which to detect signals coming from the world around them: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. But what about the sixth sense, the psychic sense that many people possess? People with this sense claim to be able to predict the future, sense spirits, and even read others' minds. Just as almost everyone has the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, I believe everyone has a sixth sense. Of course, there are some people who have unfortunately lost one or more of their senses due to injury or illness, but in general everyone has all these senses.
The sixth sense is a very weak sense, especially when a person grows up in a world that shuns, dismisses or pushes back against this sixth sense, thereby resulting in people going through life without realizing their extra capabilities.
So to push the envelope one last time today, there are those who believe worlds exist above ours. All of these worlds are like the layers of an onion, in which our world is found in the midst of all of these worlds. And we, who exist in this world, are able to feel only this world, the innermost sphere in all of existence. We are born, live, and die in this sphere, which is called this world. Just like some people have sharper vision than other people, some people also have more sensitive sixth sense than others.
I personally believe the sixth sense is a part of everyone whether or not she likes it, agrees with it or even wants to acknowledge it. It is a normal part of the human psyche and not abnormal or reserved for special or gifted individuals. Unfortunately—and thanks to mainstream media as well as formalized religions—our sixth sense has been misrepresented; as a result, people associate this gift with fear and trepidation, when in reality a person has more to fear going to his car in the parking lot after work than from those souls in the spirit world. I would love for there to be a day when the scientific process openly includes our sixth sense as part of official investigations.
Until next time, embrace your inner wisdom.
Namaste,
Karen
