The short answer to this question is yes, of course you can work from home. The long answer is, what exactly do you want to do, and is there a market that looking for what you want to do? See this is a crucial first step in starting any business. So many business owners, including myself, did not take into account when first starting. We all think, oh it’s no big deal, I can just start up an at home business, sure no problem. Big mistake. You see there are so many things into starting a business. The perks are of course are your the boss, and can work in your bathrobe if you want to everyday. The down side is that you have to build up a clientele, and its not going to happen over night. There are several factors in considering an at home business, do you have a set of skills, or products, that people want? Can you deliver, or get these things to the clients, and potential customers, when they want them? Do you just want to work by yourself, or are you going to need to hire a small staff? Do you want them to work at your house, or on an outsourced contracted basis? Do you need to get special home owners insurance to protect your business? Plus, don’t forget about getting a company name, and business license. Yeah, as you can see it’s a little more complicated then just creating a website and selling colored pencils to people. Here are some serious things to consider if your going to work at home: See if There Is A Market For Your Product: Do research, by that I mean use Google Keyword research tool, and type in what ever it is your going to sell. If there are less then 3,000 global searches per month, then forget it, your probably not going to do well. However, if there is 167,000 searches then you’ve got a winner. Keep in mind there will be competition though. Check with your Secretary of State: Make sure that what ever type of business your planning to start it can legally be done out of your house. Obviously if your creating food you may if to get a health card, sheriffs card, and other permits, especially if your working with unusual chemicals. Also if your doing awork at home business, your need to incorporate your self, and get a business license. Again this can all be done with the secretary of state. Business / Homeowners Insurance: You just wouldn’t believe how many people don’t know about this. If you’re a business, and sell a product that makes someone sick or harms them in some way, they can come after you, your business and your home! Believe me you don’t want that. Please understand that standard home owners insurance does not cover the loss of equipment, technology, medical costs, or other risks of operating a small business out of your home. Check with your local insurance agents about at home small business insurance. Of course there are a dozen other things to be aware of , however I don’t want to end up writing a thesis on working from home. I just wanted you guys to be aware of the basics, before you even started thinking about doing a work at home based business . Don’t get me wrong, if you really want to do it you should, it can be a very rewarding, and easy going lifestyle to work from home. But like anything in life you should look further into what is entailed in doing this type of business before you jump in. I hope this information helps. Take care guys, and have a great weekend!

As Lisa Morshell drove home from the Georgia Dome on the I-75 expressway, returning from another glorious victory by her Atlanta Falcons, she made plans to attend the next home game in 2 weeks. She’d open the door, say hi her pets – a chocolate Schnauzer named Rico and a tabby cat she never got around to naming and still just called Kitty – then head straight to the computer to see what seats were still available for the upcoming game versus their hated division rivals.
