Protein is one of the important macro-nutrients which can help you lose weight effectively. Your daily diet should ideally consist of 40 per cent protein content. When you take the right proportion of protein, blood sugar levels will remain relatively stable, helping you lose weight.
A research's results showed that when people ate a diet which contained a minimum of 30 per cent protein, they ate fewer calories on a daily basis. They also experienced significantly less hunger and they lost more weight than the people who did not. Researchers found that when people are placed on a high protein diet, their brain receives lowered levels of hormones which stimulate the appetite. This elevated feeling of fullness therefore helped dieters to lose weight more effectively.
When protein is consumed, the body produces a hormone called PYY, which is believed to be able to decrease a person's hunger. A high protein diet will increase the amount of PYY hormones in the body, therefore resulting in less occasions of feeling hungry and thus succumbing to binge eating.
Each time you go on a reduced calorie diet, your body loses muscle and fat. Taking a high protein diet helps to preserve your muscle mass. Also, the greater your amount of muscle mass, the greater the amount of calories your body will burn daily. When you maintain your amount of muscle mass, your metabolism will be kept high. Additionally, protein also requires more calories to be digested by your body than an equal amount of carbohydrate or fat.
Researches have also found that a high protein diet with less than 150 grams of carbohydrates will improve your heart's health as well as maintain your blood sugar levels.
It is recommended that you take five small meals daily instead of three big meals. When you take a balanced meal every few hours, your metabolism levels will be kept high, therefore burning more fats. Thus, each meal you eat should contain protein.
Good sources of low fat protein include egg whites, skinless chicken breast, fish, nuts and beans.
A high protein diet is a great and easy way to lose the excess fats you are carrying around your body. With a high protein diet, you can happily enjoy eggs, chicken and fish for your meals, all the while knowing that you are increasing your body's metabolism and burn more fats. Basically, a high protein helps you lose weight via two methods; keeping your metabolism rate high, and keeping your appetite in check.
