Causes And Results Of A Divorce For Couples
Written by Jenny Robert
Introduction:
Divorce! Though it is a common enough word and situation in this day and age, the stigma and unpleasantness attached to a couple who divorce never actually goes away. Why do couples get divorced? There are so many reasons, but one could consider incompatibility as one of the main reasons why couples experience alienation of affection which subsequently ends up in separation.
Why feelings change:
Do feelings really change, or were such feelings not just strong enough when the married vows were taken. It would probably be the first reason, as most couples would not take the plunge and get married if there was any doubt on the feelings front. So what situations cause the lessening of the feelings present on the wedding day? Situations so intense and problematic that the couple feels they can no longer live with each other? Is it respect? Is it tolerance of each other’s faults and failures? Is it exte
al relationships? The reasons can be many and varied. No divorce happens for the same reasons. Every couple throws up different reasons for wanting a divorce. But the common thread that runs through each situation is the emotional quotient of anger, helplessness, frustration, regret and denial. Couples who have happy and strong marriages advocate their successful union to the fact that besides the physical attributes, the intangible ‘friendship’ vibes that they share with each other is the all important ingredient. Friendship embodies values such as sharing, trusting, respect and understanding. If these values are present in a marriage, they will be strong enough to overcome all the negative issues that may crop up from time to time.
Divorce fall-outs:
When a couple divorces, besides affecting the two people involved, the divorce also has an impact on the family. The parental alienation also affects any children the couple may have. The first important step would be how to let the children know that their parents and home are no longer the safe and happy haven they have learnt to enjoy. The next step would be who would get custody of the children – mother or father? Or would it be joint custody if both parents are responsible enough to handle the children? Other members of the family like elderly parents living in the family home might also be affected. If it is an uncontested divorce, either the wife or husband filing for divorce would be the person to keep the home and family together. This would happen if the partner against whom the divorce is being filed is mentally, physically, or financially not in a position to act as a responsible parent.
To ensure that divorce proceedings are handled in the best possible manner and an acceptable divorce settlement agreement is reached, it is best to contact a divorce lawyer to handle the same. Divorce lawyers may not come cheap. So if you are looking for a lawyer you can afford, a paralegal may be the best option. Paralegals charge much less than full-fledged divorce lawyers, the drawback being that they are not fully professionally trained to give legal advice. So in simple cases where both parties are in agreement and there is no estate to be divided, cheap divorce lawyers like paralegals would be the ideal choice.
