Chasing Tails

This morning, as I was sipping ginger tea, I noticed my cat, Teddy, chasing endlessly after his own tail. Suddenly, it occurred to me that this what people do every single day, in one fashion or another. Let me explain...

Over the past six weeks a recurrent theme has cropped up in my email: “Susan Lynne, I am trying and trying; being positive, doing affirmations, following The Laws Of Attraction, and nothing changes. It is the same. I am still suffering.”

Life is a coin. It is two-sided. We come into this Universe and experience joy, opportunity, love--all those wonderful aspects of life are there for us. As I said, life (the coin), has two sides, and there is the other side, which encompasses, suffering, sadness, pain, lack of love etc. The answer lies in the coin.

You can not spend a one-sided quarter. If you took a coin to the bank to deposit that had only one side, they would refuse to accept it as a true legal type of currency. So why do we try so hard in our daily life to insist on having a one-sided life? If your goal is to make the changes in your life that to lead you in a joyous direction, you must not resist what it is you are trying to change. In fact: See it, feel it, understand it, acknowledge the existence and then, and only then, can you let it go.

How can we truly see, experience and feel the joy we so desperately seek, if we deny the suffering, and negative, lower-source energy, around us. How can we solve world hunger if we have never heard, seen or experienced it. We could not, for we would not even know what hunger is. We can not wish away, like fairy dust, all of the negative lower-energy. Doing that is, like my cat Teddy, chasing your tail.

Once we acknowledge the “coin” aspect of life, then we can make real changes and start liviing in a positive direction. It is merely the flip of the coin. Yes, sometimes it lands on tails. When you are going through a tail period, so to speak, the key is to not-resist. Realize that this is not you; it does not define you. In not resisting we become stronger and grow and are able to let go.

Letting go of automatic reactions, like fear-based resistance, gives us the freedom to truly let go and move in peaceful, new, directions. Live the joy and experience the newness of spirit that, before, we had been feverishly chasing. I would love to hear your thoughts and dialogue on this.

My mother died suddenly October 20, 1987, at the age of 67 from a heart attack. Earlier that year she had told me about health problems she had experienced, and I told her that I believed she had suffered a heart attack and needed to see a medical doctor. “No,” she said, “They’ll just pick on my weight and I just don’t want to stop eating because it’s the only thing that makes me happy.” I knew that my mother was a very unhappy person, and I couldn’t argue with what she had stated. She had expressed for several years that she really wanted to die because she was so unhappy.
