I had been struggling with certain things in my life and two days ago I made a major personal shift. I was grateful for the change that occured and made sure to thank the Universe for my good fortune. No, I hadn't won the lottery, but I had a deep sense of gratitude for having my health and generally being alive. It was quite a gift.

A little while later, amongst the clouds, thunder began to roll and lightning began striking. It was in the middle of the afte
oon and I knew the lightning was close because the clash of the thunder sounded as though it was right above my home. In response to the warmth of a typical July afte
oon in France, I had all the glass doors open to not only get some fresh air, but to see the beautiful trees in the garden.

The rain finally arrived about 15 minutes later. The light drizzle quickly turned into a downpour in a very short time. Normally, I would have shut the windows, but an overhang outside prevented the rain from coming into the house. So, I made the decision to commune with Nature and leave the doors open.

All my senses were activated. I felt as though I was in the middle of the tropics with the warmth in the air combined with the rain. The rain actually began to cool me down a bit and it made the most beautiful rythmic sound as the drops hit the roof of the apartment building as well as the ground. I found that I was tapping my toes to the beat.

The red flowers on a neighbor's balcony and the green and burgundy leaves from all the trees delighted in the rain as well and I enjoyed watching them receive a much needed shower. The air smelled refreshingly clean from the rain washing away all the junk that was no longer needed.

I was reminded of the scene from Shawshank Redemption where Tim Robbins finds his freedom and stretches his arms in the "cross" position, celebrating his life. I was on the balcony doing the same. I truly was one with Nature and the Universe itself. From a metaphysical perspective, I AB-SO-LUTE-LY knew this downpour was "just for me". It was symbolizing the clearing I had made from my shift earlier in the day. I found out later that Paris didn't see any rain at all...and Paris is only 15 minutes away...the rain truly was just for me.

Some people complain when the rain comes down. They think it's simply depressing. I invite you to take another stance the next time it rains. Rain helps to create life. It sustains life. Enjoy the sights and the sounds it makes. Feel your own sense of freedom, even do a dance if you feel so inspired. Show your gratitude for being alive.

I am grateful for my shift and I am grateful for my rainstorm!
