There is so much being written at the moment about cold calling being outdated, outlived and down-right dead. I couldn't disagree more.
Yes, we all know there are more sophisticated marketing and sales methods around. We would all like our phones ringing off the hook with potential clients ringing us. Not everyone has that pleasure. When done properly, cold calling is one of the greatest ways to win new business. The key here is 'when done properly', which is rarely the case.
Back to cold calling is dead. Let me pose a situation to you:
Imagine for a minute, you have just been flicking through the trade press for your industry and a Director of an organization has given an interview. In that interview he talks about some of the challenges he faces over the next two years that could have a massive positive or negative impact on his business. As you read you understand. You have helped solve those challenges with other clients. You know the errors they could make that would cost them a fortune in time and money. You have the solution easily packaged up and ready to go.
What would you do?
Hopefully, you said something along the lines of:
"That's a stupid questio
Peter! I would be on the phone right away introducing myself"
If you did - well done.
Strip away all the hype and that is essentially what professional cold calling is.
You identify people who potentially might have challenges you could solve and you see if you can help them solve them. If you both decide it warrants you meeting then you can arrange a meeting.
In that instance you wouldn't dream of submitting an article to that magazine explaining how you would solve the problem, submit your article to online article sites, blog about it, offer a FREE report via classified advertising or direct mail.
Of course not!
If you were confident in the fact that you could help them you would be on the phone cold calling them immediately. And I bet you would get the meeting you deserved. Find out more ways of doing this with by using the free resources we give away on our web site. Check out the links in the bio.

The brand’s slogan at the time was “Honda, the car that sells itself.” Ha!

Decision-Maker or Decision-Faker?
Excerpt from the book "Chase the Championship - Kicking Ass, Taking Names and Becoming a Dealmaker!" Stay far away from the boss’s underlings when you are in search of a decision. The heads of Marketing, IT, Human Resources, or whoever else is part of the “decision-making chain” for the product or service that you are selling should never be the people that you go after for a commitment.
