Anything that alters the acidity of the stomach will in the end create more stomach acidity on rebound. Hydrochloric Acid should be present in stomach especially before you have a meal. However, when you take an alkaline substance that alters that state of acidity, this alkalinity is picked up in the brain via the blood. The brain then sends signals to the stomach to produce more acid. Meadowsweet does not alter the natural stomach acidity because it normalises it.
